New Atari Console - Teaser pics
Discussion
Is this going to be retro gaming or for new games?
My first console/video gaming experience was the atari with combat cassette. Bit of nostalgia there but I'm a diehard PC gamer now, it will have to be something special to pull me back to consoles (PS4 recently purchased is just gathering dust now).

I don't know but i remember literally hours of 'fun' with tank on the 2600... My first console/video gaming experience was the atari with combat cassette. river raid, phoenix, space invaders, missile command - many, many hours.. lol..
I have a Stella emulator on the Mac and the Pi with all 1800 roms but would love that in the authentic / modern shell like above. Think id pay around £80 for that goodness.

The natural successor to Tank in the modern era is the tank game on the Wii (Play), my kids still go back to that occasionally despite the joys of minecraft and my son now playing PC games... Very similar in concept to the Atari game but with more options/weapons and quite nice graphics...
Email seems to suggest that both retro and modern games will be possible. What that means though is open to interpretation i guess.
Angry birds is a modern game but would hope for more.
Very interested but await further details. Wood version for me over glass looking at the pictures.

Hey J4CKO, got any pics of your handiwork? I've got the exact same project lined up over the next couple of weeks so I'd be interested to see how you put yours together from a connections and internals point of view. First step is to strip down the unit and give it a good clean then start to think about where I want to mount all the connectivity ports for which I've got panel mount leads to mount them on the unit.
I bought an on-off extension board for mine that I plan (hope?!) to wire in to the main on/off switch so that it can be operated as you'd expect. I'd also thought about adding a microswitch breaker to the cartridge slot so that it requires you to slot a cartridge in, but that might be for a future extension or remain purely as an idea.

I used to play on a mate's 2600 all those years ago and it was fantastic (when I was around 14 or whatever).
But those days have gone, you can't get them back, so I don't see any attraction in playing 2600 games now. Is it just me that thinks that ?
Nope, 100% agree. Even more modern console games likes the SNES just feel dated and crap now. I know they have a massive following still but it’s just not for me.But those days have gone, you can't get them back, so I don't see any attraction in playing 2600 games now.
