This is my first topic posted in Minis, but I am a regular over in Japchat, so I know about the search function, which is currently disabled apparently (?)

Anyway, I am looking into building a Bike Powered Mini (z-cars) and was wondering if anyone here had done this already?

Its not build advice I am after (not yet anyway ) but insurance?!?!

Does anyone know who I should approach?

I have tried Adrian Fist, no, thats not right, Adrian Fux? No, oh hang on, Adrian FLUX, and they insisted on a full driveshafting once a year, without the use of grease. So I would prefer not to use them.

Anyone have any ideas??

Cheers Guys n Gals.

Maybe a kit car friendly insurer would be your best bet.

Someone on here has got a Hyabusa mini, I think, can't remember his username though. Will try to dig it out...

Was it "Sasha" (or Sacha )

I have had a few emails back from Chris @ Z cars, and hopefully he will be able to help. Fingers crossed, cos I've bought the Mini now!!!

Just out of interest, how much would you expect insurance to be on an R1 powered mini, 3000 miles a year, worth about £6k. For a 24yr old with 2 yr NCB?

Cheers All.

Yes, you're right - it was Sacha.

Hmmm, no idea on insurance. I would guess it would be pretty steep, not least because it's kind of an unknown entity to insurers. I wouldn't be suprised if it ran in to 4 figures...

About the same as an Evo/Scooby insurance wise.

ZCars know who is sympathetic to this sort of project I think.

Keep us all updated on the progress. I got quite a way down the Turbo Busa Mini route and bottled it and bought a VXT. Gearbox issues put me off in the end, they just werent designed to push that sort of weight.

Good luck!

My daily drive is a Toyota Celica GT4, so I was prepared for Scooby/Evo quotes, but double that, and your nearly there!! Way into 4 figures.

Unfortunatley, the only people Chris @ Z Cars know of who will touch them, is Adrian Fist. So it looks like either an expensive toy sat in my garage for track fun only, or, wait a few years, and see if any other companies start to offer policies.

Bugger.

Have you tried Eggar Lawson/Competition Car Insurance. I've insured my track/hillclimb Mini with them (for road use) and they didn't seem to mind what mods had been done to it. Quote was c.£300 for £5000 cover TPFT.

I hadn't tried them, but I will. Cheers. They sound the sort of people I need to be speaking to. Humans, instead of idiots in front of computers.

Good work. Cheers,

Ed

ps, Plotloss, am I right in thinking I met you at Mini in The Park?? with my brother Fatboy?

Right then chaps,

I thought seeing as you had all been so helpful, the least I could do is keep you up to date.

I cannot get insurance anywhere, most places saying because I am only 24!!!

So, I am going to get the kit, and build insurance, and start putting it togther anyway, and hopefully, by the time I reach 25 (next March) I will be able to insure, and ready to thrash it all over the country, to various shows and meets!!

So fingers crossed, and you can expect a few more build related posts from me over the next 10-11 months!!!

Cheers Guys n Gals
