Spotted a marked Mercedes E class in a layby. He was facing the same way as me. He was using some sort of hand held speed detection device.
As I went passed he shoved it out of the window pointed it back up from where I had just come and was presumably was trying to get a fix on a vehicle behind me.
I'd imagine a decent brief would have a field day with that in court.

Ah hello again ca, I trust you are well.
That's not good news you've reported there. I've been known to enjoy myself quite a bit on the A74 / A74M / M74 etc. in recent months.
I don't know about the court scenario, but I'd prefer not to put it to the test.
Note to self: Keep working on those observation skills!

Assuming you could prove it, that is. I'm fairly sure the speed detection method would be fully compliant with the rules when described in court
