Domain Renewal Problems

I have domain name which I registered with Site Builder a year ago. It has come time to renew. I'd like to keep it as may use it in the future. Site Builder has quoted me several prices for renewal and are currently struggling to issue an invoice for the quoted renewal amount. This is very frustrating.
Is it an option to wait for thedomain name to expire and buy from elsewhere? Or for me to transfer to a more stable domain host ?

I would imagine you are mixing up domain renewal costs and hosting costs.
It is simple enough to transfer the domain name to another registrar. Just "unlock" the domain name, create a new account with another registrar (someone like GoDaddy) and then follow their instructions to move it over. Takes 2-3 days normally.
It wouldn't make sense to let the domain name expire and then re-register it, as the domain will go into a period pending expiry where you won't be able to use it and you won't be able to buy it either.
