A handbrake fault warning came up on the dashboard tonight and every time I tried to start the car the fault came up and killed the ignition. I eventually managed to start the car and I'm now not applying the handbrake and just leaving the s-tronic in the park position.

Question is, is this something anyone else on here has experienced and was it costly to fix?

Is it time to get rid?

A VCDS scan would be good to show fault codes but it is most likely one of the brake motors sticking or failing.

Is there more than one brake motor for the handbrake?

One on each rear caliper, yes.

I've not come across this in ages as those are generally very reliable but the last one I remember was a ~2010 A5 that needed one new rear caliper as the motor refused to behave.

Thanks Dr G are new calipers expensive and are they costly to fit?
