I just tried to recall what was mine but no joy; I'm guessing it was something of Amazon, but my accounts on there only go back as far as 2004 which was for a CH fighterstick for playing IL2 Sturmovik with. It was probably a CD or something safe like that: Not sure you can trust this internet thing, probably a flash in the pan anyway..........

Good question, and not a clue is my answer. Would guess at something off ebay maybe???

I suppose technically it may have been buying access to the internet itself on one of those free AOL CD's.

A DVD player by a company called Yelo, a British firm that still exists. It was some time early 2000.
It was very large and heavy and I think it was around £400, it could play multi region films.

It was from a company called jungle.com which was sold to Great Universal despite being the second biggest UK online retailer at the time but it was making losses it couldn't keep up with. The boss went on to a senior post at Argos and now if you google jungle.com the first result is Argos which jungle was absorbed into a couple of years later.

I bought a set of clear rear lights off an Orion forum for car, I sent the bloke £100 cash and it 'never made it' rofl

Looking back now I realise that I got mugged off, I ended up getting a cheque from my gran and sending the money again.

£200 for some used clear rear lights. rofl

I think I bought a CD from CD Wow back in 2000. I've been buying from Amazon since 2003.

First thing I ever bought off Ebay was a Sony DAV S800 home cinema system - must have been 2000/2001. Won the auction, went round to the blokes house, gave him a cheque and toddled off home.

Can't actually remember buying anything online prior to that. Fast forward 17 years, and it's very, very rare I'll go to a shop to buy anything.

CDWow was ace, they used to have a cashback system for reviews- I ended up with a few free CDs like that!

We forget in the great scheme of things how it's not all that long ago.

Around 96/97 I was talking to a customer who was telling me about "advertising on the internet"
Mentioned it to by boss, who gave me a considered look and said "it's all very well, but do you know anyone proper who uses the internet"

CD wow and play.com were always compared on my imac, while wife waited patiently to use the phone!. Amazon were tiny and just books.

I think for me as well it was either CDWow or Play.com - possibly Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in around 2000.

Haven't used either for years.
