The 'correct' amount of time to display a postcard??
Discussion
I got home the other day having been away for a few days, a friend was with me.
Got in and I picked up a pile of post and was flicking through it whilst she got the kettle on for a brew.
Part of the pile was a postcard from my parents on holiday - I read it, looked at the picture, made a mental note to mention it next time I speak to them and chucked it on the recycling pile.
My friend was quite horrified! Said this act was rude and heartless and she would at least put it on the fridge for the 'correct amount of time'. She was offended to the point where she actually fished it out of the pile and propped it up on the kitchen window ledge. It looks messy and will fall off as soon as the windows are open, so as soon as she left I popped it back in the recycling.
I read it, I made a note to mention it - it's served it's purpose and is no longer required!!
I asked her what was the 'correct amount of time'. She didn't answer this, told me I was being deliberately obtuse and changed the subject.
So PH, wtf is the 'correct' amount of time to display a postcard??

People still send postcards?!
Good point, with reference to my post earlier, haven't actually received a new one for years but the ones still on display are probably 10+ years old.I buy a handful on trips away ,not to send, just as a souvenir, they're cheap enough 2 for €1
or similar.

IME parents, relatives, over 60s generally still seem to like them. Habit of a lifetime I guess.
When I go and visit my grandmother-in-law she has every single postcard my wife and I have ever sent her. Its sweet, and I enjoy reading/looking at them whenever I'm there.
Good memories.
Sorry, edited to add: The 'correct' amount of time to display a postcard is forever, or until you decide to throw it away. Whichever comes first.
