I've got an A6 on order with dealer on finance purchase and it looks like it has been delayed a bit and won't arrive for another month.

Is it worth telling them to hold on for another week or so to have it registered as a 67 plate or does it really make no difference these days?

I'm thinking it might slow the initial depreciation a bit but probably makes no odds over three years but would be interested to hear opinions.

Sorry if this has been asked before. Searched the forum but got bored after the first 6 pages of personal number plate discussion.

Cheers smile

It's certainly not so much of a big deal now to have the latest plate but if I was in your position I would defo request a September collection simply to avoid the small amount of disappointment when a couple of weeks after collecting you drive past a nice shiny 67 plate something!

I researched private plates (non-dated, and non-chavvy). £350 to £600. In the end I quite liked the 66 plate number on the pre-registered car I bought and so kept it. I can always add a plate later. Personally in your circumstances I would get them to register it as 67 and wait. Can they register it to you before the 1st Sept as 67 but not release it until then? However, why order a new car when there is a glut of pre-registered cars? Mine had 9 miles and 24% off 'list' (not that list means much).

Cheers for your thoughts.

Slight change in situation:

The elves at Audi have obviously been very busy overnight as the tracker status has just been updated from "order received" to "your Audi is on its way to U.K.".

Dealer thinks that it should be ready for collection within two weeks.

Might just go ahead and pick it up as everyday with current drive runs the risk of new garage bill to settle before px and MOT is coming up as well. I would be kicking myself if I ended up shelling out £500+ just to get the newer reg.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't asking the dealer to register it and hold mean that I would then be the 2nd owner?

I am holding off on my new car for September delivery.
I will put my personal plate on it, so it won't make any difference to me.
It may also have no financial benefit when I come to sell on in a few years.
But if it makes the car a bit more attractive when I do sell then so much the better.

Downside is that I am really champing at the bit for my new car, so I'm regretting it a little now.
However, car isn't built yet, and I only have another 7 weeks to wait.....
(I'm picking it up mid September due to my work rota)
