Hello all

as the title. Went to see the Velar for the first time in the flesh in Cardiff Landrover on Sunday, and online pictures aside it did absoutely nothing for me at all. Sure the interior looks very 2017,but as for the exterior of the car it was bland and just looked like a stretched Evoque. it was parked next to a full fat and a sport which probably didnt help.

So, the plans on ordering a 2.0 D240 Velar R Dynamic collapsed. We have now decided to look for a Range Rover Sport, 3.0 TDV6, wouldnt dismiss the right spec 4.4V8 diesel either. Mind boggled over HSE Dynamic or AB dynamic, but its down to what car i find with what spec i guess.

Huge amount of mix and match spec cars online so im starting to confuse myself on what im actually looking at, but i have concluded that i'd like:

Budget is £60k max. From what i see this gets me a 2016/66, 2015/65 HSE Dynamic or Autobiography with a good spec and low miles.

Autobioraphy Spec.. i like the extended leather and minimal exterior colour coding details. Im unsure what the actual standard spec of an AB car is so my other requested options below might already be included on an AB car?

-Meridian sound system. 825w or ideally the full fat 1700 wat version which seems to be rare.

-Infotainment- im after a car with the new InControl features (4 big icons on the home screen). Confusingly ive seen this from 65plate cars onwards with the standard 8'' screen. i understand some 66 / all 17 plate cars had the larger 10'' screen - is this correct? i havent looked at 14/64 plate cars because the older infotainment system looks a right arse to use as reflected in early all reviews of the earlier cars.

-Colours - IExterior first choice is Santorini Black, followed by Grey, Loire blue and the brighter red. Interior, lighter colours, love the dual colour of the AB spec where the dash and arm rest is a different colour to the seats, not fussed on anything red.

- Surround cameras

-Deployable Steps

-21'' or 22'' wheels (OEM not aftermarket!)

-Pano roof (standard on all HSEs?) sliding roof would be nice.

can anyone expand on any of the above and tell me what is standard on a 2015/2016 Autobiography (if they differ in years?) and if its worth the actual punt of a HSE Dynamic. Also need clarification on the infotainment screens as that pickled my head a bit. I welcome any other comments RE buying a year/two year old example. Looking to buy used approved from Land Rover for use of a 2 year warranty but im open to going further afield as i appreciate my boxes are quite specific to tick.

appreciate your help and advice.

Irfan

Suggest you drive a 3.0d Dynamic R Velar and see how you feel. I am picking up a first edition next week but have had a dealer car all day today and what can I say - it's magnificent and what the sport should have been! Lookers West London have one as a demo.

The Velar sticks to the road like glue and is comfortable and blindingly quick and agile too!

Ps - My previous car was a RRS 3.0d autobiogrpahy.

Just cancelled my Velar today. I had on order a R Dynamic HSE with the D300 engine to replace our '66plate RRS Dyn. The Sport is the better bet as to get a similar Velar in my RRS engine/trim was going to be mid £70k's which is too expensive in this segment imho and more expensive than my Sport cost in the first place! With build slots Sept/Oct I can't see the residuals for the more expensive Velars doing too well, so I will keep my Sport.

Harwoods Crawley have a nice '66 plate RRS Dyn with Stealth Pack for £59k, I paid £65k new for mine in same trim, so good time of year to buy.

IMHO I not too excited about the '17MY infortainment over the '16.5MY....

I thought leasing these things was cheaper than buying nowadays?

I agree. At first i thought the Velar was superb and would order one ,now all of the first thoughts have gone i still prefer the sport or FF as i do not think the Velar is as RR as the other two.

This, all day long.

Saying that though, I do doff my cap to LR for putting an F-Pace in a frock and having the marketing know-how/confidence/balls to make people think they are getting something different/superior, when in reality is it's just an F-Pace with a monumental price tag.

I was in the same dilemma as I traded my discovery sport in. I really fancied the new velar but when pricing one up it came to the price of a range rover sport. So I got a RRS (worked out cheaper with man maths) which I got before the tax rules changed which was also a bonus and with the 3.0 TDV6 and air suspension the car is awesome. The other week I was in the middle of a forest with it, then the next thing having a spirited drive home.

So its a car that covers all bases for me.

66 introduced InControl Apps to the old Infotainment - they changed the home screen so it had 4 home icons, but underneath was just the same old system, but with the InControl Apps

17 introduced the all new InControl Touch Pro system - light years ahead of the old, but light years behind BMW / Audi

Cracking help all.

I think i've found the car, but it is miles away from me but should be worth the viewing.

Its a 2015 (65) Range Rover Sport Autobiography 4.4SDV8
-12k miles
-Santorini Black
-22'' Black Style 504 wheels
-Deployable Side Steps
-Ebony Seats with Lunar inserts (black and grey seats basically!)
-Sliding Pano Roof
-Everything else is pretty well spec'd as per usual Autobiography Spec i.e reverse cam, heated and cooled seats, Meridian 825w system, ambient lighting etc etc.

its up for £63k with a two year used approved LR warranty. To be fair off a few valuations it seems to be a fair price.

this is going to be a daily and i cant help but think a 4.4SDV8 is going to be over kill as i did think the 306bhp SDV6 would be ample.. but i do really like the sound and look of this so i think it could be a winner.

Pitty the LR salesman is so pushy, i only inquired about it yesterday afternoon and i've had 4 calls off him already!

Anyone have an experience/ comment on the 4.4?

Phil.

I have the 4.4 SDV8 in the FFRR. I tested the Sport with the 3.0 SDV6 beforehand and particularly disliked the lag when pulling away unless in sport mode. The 4.4 doesn't have this lag. It's more relaxed and it never feels under powered, quite the opposite. I get an average of around 30mpg on a mix of motorway and B road driving. It's a daily for me too - c. 90 miles per day.

Suggest you google Saxton customer experience before dealing with them. I haven't done this search for a couple of years but they were highly informative!
