There is a sizeable gas pipeline interconnector pipeline project being constructed here in SW Scotland. From Dumfries to Ireland.

With the massive project comes a huge influx of personnel.

Many of the vehicles being used are rented or leased. Noticeably a large number of brand new Discoveries, passenger NOT commercial models (not sure if comms are available).
These vehicles are working VERY hard in largely off road conditions.

When they are off hired, cleaned and find themselves sold into retail as "nearly new", "ex management", "ex Demo", low mileage I wonder what the unsuspecting purchasers will encounter as far as problems go.

Probably no problems at all.

4x4 being used for 4x4 type stuff, hardly the press release of the century.

They'll be sold as approved used so will be checked and warrantied so it's not really an issue.

Eh, isn't that exactly what these vehicles are built to do?

Exactly my point. Where once SHB would have been hiring them Defenders now it is Discovery Cars. Not sure roughnecks using them as a hire car is a previous owner I would be pleased to have a car off.
