Looking for an everyday watch to replace my Christopher Ward C7 Rapide which is going back, and found this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-Mens-Automatic-Watc...

Seems too good to be true really.

Think I'm going to buy one anyway, just because it would be rude not to at that price.

Sorry if all the watch gurus are yawning but, perhaps unbelievably, I have only just come across it.

I have a slightly different model seiko 5 in military green, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-Automatic-Analogue-... I paid £57.50 IIRC, plus about a tenner for a NATO-style strap from my local jewellers (the factory strap is just a fabric buckle type).

Not sure what the spec differences are between your linked model and mine - but I liked mine very much, until i got an upgrade.

I have one of these that I use as my holiday watch. I like it a lot.. cost me 50 quid or so from some far east eBay shop, a few years ago.

Is is the substantially larger one. The £50 watches are about 36mm. This is 40mm-ish and theyre usually about £80.

I have one of the Seiko's. The problem I found with it was the glass. It scratched very easily to the point where I don't wear it anymore. I bought it to wear for work & after a year or so it was ruined. Back to G-Shocks....

Or someone! I bet James Bond would've picked that over a weedy Explorer to use as a knuckle duster if he had the chance.

Spend a bit more and buy a Seiko SKX007.

On a value / quality ratio, it's pretty much unbeatable.

Generally, the majority of Seiko's use their proprietary 'Hardlex' crystal, which strikes a middle ground between plastic& sapphire crystals.

The downside is that it's softer that sapphire, so it'll scratch easier (but not as easily as plastic/plexi crystals), but the upside is that it's less shatter-prone than sapphire, so it can better take a knock.

The Seiko 5 series are great. They don't tend to be terrifically accurate, but they're reliable and will happily keep ticking for years & years without servicing. The SKX & SRP series of dive watches are legendary, and probably the best value for money around.

Now that is a cool timepiece. Is it a current model?

It's a Seiko SNZH55 modified to become a Seiko Fifty Five Fathoms, a homage to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and is on a shark mesh bracelet.

Someone's went to a bit of hassle for a "beater"...

I've got one that looks like this;

http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-dive...

I think I may have bought it from Creation Watches at the time. I've had it about 5 years now, paid about £100 at the time and I wear it daily. The case and strap have got general wear marks on but no major damage and it gets worn all the time, out in the garage, under cars, on the mountian bike, during gardening and DIY etc. Considering the use I'd say it's worn very well, and has stayed waterproof thoughout.

I bought it after a similar moment to yourself, it seemed excellent value for an auto and I was intrigued to see if it was any good. I'd have no problem recommending one as a purchase again.

I have the watch in the OP (snzg07) and the one above (snzf17).

Both are excellent. The time keeping of both is still spot on (the snzg is 6 or 7 years old, the snzf is 5 or 6). The snzg strap is looking, and smelling, a little used but otherwise it's a fine watch. The snzf is quite battered after a number of incidents yet still looks great.

Both bought from creation watches.
