I seem to be using the A9 between Perth and Inverness a bit more often now, and since the cameras were introduced, successfully used the Pocket GPS app on my Android phone (running 7.1.1).

For reasons I can't work out, the app is not displaying average speed between the cameras much these days - it appeared to start going wrong after I updated the Android version, but couldn't find anyone else having this issue on the Pocket GPS forums.

Is anyone else using this app on Android on the A9?

I also tried out the free TomTom speed camera app, which had similar issues, and seems partly affected by the poor mobile signal on this route (which appears to have got worse on Vodafone at any rate). Waze also gives up very quickly due to the lack of mobile signal.

Anyone else having similar issues, or alternative suggestions?

A Road Angel Gem is what you need. If you drive the A9 regularly it is worth its weight in gold as it shows your average between cameras at all times.

Not sure I am willing to fork out £150 or so, and presumably I need to pay for an annual subscription? I suppose it would mean I could keep the phone in the glove box though.

There an annual or monthly subscriptions charge. Like I said, if you drive the road regularly the cost is a minor issue for how much easier it makes the journey. If I drive without it I find I am constantly checking my speed - it really allows you to make up any time lost.
