Sub £10k watch
Discussion
I have a bit of cash to invest in a watch, pretty eclectic taste in watches so far:
IWC Portuguese RG
Hublot BB
Rolex GMT II
Dornbluth
Tag Heure Monaco
Suggestions on a watch that i wont lose a packet on - probably needs to be a daily so no gaudy bling stuff please - My IWC is getting lots of use at the moment if that helps.

Since you have a collection already but are lacking a complicated piece, that's what I would recommend- something a bit more interesting movement wise.
Have a look at the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Calendars- the triple date watches with moon phase and power reserve.
Absolutely stunning level of finish and quality (far exceeds Tag, IWC etc), with a wonderful movement. A great buy used at around 5000-5500 so well within your budget. The 40.5 mm discontinued model (with power reserve also) is my favorite.
One of the best bang for buck complicated pieces you can get, that can be worn daily if you wish.

If retained value is the main consideration then a 16710 GMTII with box and papers would be a good bet, stick dial if you want to go the whole hog would be around £8-8.5k.
I'm guessing he'll be happy with the one he has? Maybe not!

I saw you were interested in them on another thread.
How do the new ones compare to the vintage?
May have found a vintage one ... If the deal doesn't come off I'll be around your gaff whilst your on hol's ok How do the new ones compare to the vintage?

Then I'll set a savings account up and maybe in 3~5 years time I'll treat myself to a new modern one (not a bathyscaphe) ... unfortunately my payscale isn't like some on here so I need to save for a treat like a new one .... (Others may argue £8~10k on a watch (saved for or not) is outrageous but to me .... I'd prefer to drive a decent / crappy van and have a nice watch

Would you not consider one of the "polish navy" ones?

I am sure they are less than 8k and they have all the right bits if you find the right ones.

Currently £150~250 a month being squirrelled away (was going to be for a Tudor North Flag at x-mas)
but now the desire has gone for the Tudor and I'm happy to pay the extra to be the first owner ... taking the tags and plastic off etc It'll be a massive thread revival but I'm sure everyone would say ... he wanted it and worked hard to afford it

For a vintage ... no sorry couldn't entertain even half that cost unless it had huge provenance

Anyway ... If I was the OP having some money to invest in a watch it would be one of the two linked above,
Unfortunately I have to save
for mineEdited by T6 vanman on Saturday 29th July 17:03

Understood - I like the look of the no radiations dial, but for the money I'd go vintage every time. Mine has become my favourite watch.http://www.chrono24.com/blancpain/fifty-fathoms-au... or
