GT3RS 991 GEN 2 Thoughts.
Discussion
While I am awaiting delivery of my Gen 2 GT3 I have been thinking about the imminent announcement of the Gen 2 GT3RS.
What do we think it will offer over the GT3? I reckon that Andreas will have squeezed out a bit more power maybe even gone for a 4.2 motor. Whatever, there will be a substantial leaning feature wise towards the GT2 RS as it will not be able to trouble it performance wise. Reckon it will even be offered with a Weissach Pack plus every weight saving expensive option that they can throw at it.
I also think that this will be Porsche's last NA engine before the inevitable takeover by forced induction.
Thoughts?

I reckon you are right there. I think we first saw the Weissach pack on the 918, now we hear its optionable on the GT2 RS and I think its inevitable it will 'trickle down' to the 991 GT3 and possibly the next 718 based GT4.

Think that depends on what's going on engine wise with the GT3 race series....I seem to remember AP saying that's a big factor. Thoughts?
I also think what seems like the inevitible push for electric cars might actually buy the NA engine some time. Manufacturers will be pushing for clarity so they can spend their R&D money where it's needed....if the future is all electric I think there may be less pressure on lowering emissions in the short term. There's a massive need to improve the efficiency of electric cars in every aspect to make the 2040 target feasible.
When do we think the release date/motor show launch be?
Rob is the GT3 enough or is the RS completely on another level, seems many are more than happy with the 3 and don't see the need for the RS?
Funnily enough I've never driven the 991GT3 but I own a 991RS tbh never driven previous 3's.

I don't say this lightly; my 991 GT3RS was and is the the most amazing car I have ever driven and owned! I once toyed with a 488 having spent a day at Thruxton driving and being driven in one. (Thanks again D.Lovett Ferrari) No question it was faster but then how fast do you want to go. At the time to jump ship would have cost very little and was granted a January this year build slot. When I jumped back into my RS, drove a couple of miles with all the noise and drama I remember patting the dash and saying out loud "I f-cking love you!" I find it difficult to believe that a gen 2 GT3 is a superior car to my RS though according to all the press and road tests it is. It will only lack some of the visual drama that the RS offers which is why I have opted for Miami Blue. Quite how Porsche have improved on that screaming flat six engine is something I am so looking forward to.
I have now owned a 991 GT3,911 Cab, 991 GT3RS, GT4 and am awaiting our GT3. My thinking is that despite racking up nearly 6,000 miles in each of the GT cars I have spent nearly 18 months in total waiting for cars to arrive so it is on that basis that our fabulous GT3 will be much more of a keeper so I can get on with my life.
With the GT3 now sold out World Wide I reckon that the RS will be announced in the Autumn with a much higher price tag due to a much more lavish specification. If I was to be offered one would I? I honestly don't know and that is unusual for me.
Thanks for the report Rob.
I currently have a white RS which looks brilliant and is epic, I never leave the car without a smile.
I'm lucky enough to have a GT4 but it just doesn't do enough for me bar from it keeping my license intact.
Gosh that's hard to believe that you might not be interested in the next RS. Surely it's going to be better than the 3, it has to be.
I never asked the question even tho I have interest in a GT3 whether I would get the .2, now I'm thinking maybe I should of pushed.
Will the NASP disappear is a good question. With the option of manual on the 3 and previous quote on the engine, the 3 could quite easily be a rare keeper.
Obviously I have interest in an RS.2 but will I be twice lucky to get one ??.

The 991RS has an amazing engine but it is rev hungry. For me, if the new GT3's engine is as torquey as they say it is, the car will be better than the 991RS already, never mind the new aero and manual option.
The new engine in the GT3 is even more rev hungry though with more low down power and torque which is good news especially for us and our driving. I have read that Porsche claim that the engine is better suited to PDK which must have something to do with its need to rev so fast. Using 700rpm in the higher gears means that you are moving really quickly and the opportuities to do so are limited. Simply can't wait ! I have the fortunate choice of picking between the GT4 and RS but see them both together and theres only one set of keys I pick up.
I had a Cayenne diesel S 4.2 which I totally loved wished I'd never got rid tbh. There's nothing like the noise and drama of a decent engine, funny the looks you get only doing 30mph and the sound of the engine, You'd think you were doing 100.
Anyway onwards to the next RS will it be the last NASP? will they bring out a ltd edition like the 997 RS 4.0 type machine? or has the 991R taken that slot already?

Just taken delivery of this Turbo S and I must say I totally miss the sound of that 4.0 in the RS. So much better.
Maybe, but I find the Turbo S so monsters the RS in real world driving that I love it. Awesome everyday car. Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
