Hi all, not posted this week as I've been a bit too depressed to look at all you lucky gits with your Tivs

I had plans to buy the S2 last week, but Insurance issues have conspired against me... ok, ok, so its my fault for not checking properly!

Having checked a number of online sources to get my quotes, all were coming back at a nice affordable level, around £850-1000.

When I actually phoned to get the insurance, all the companies seemed to have a problem with either my age, the fact I had not owned a TVR before (durr) or would not accept company car experience for classic policies.

Last ditch effort was made by phoning the actual broker who handles our fleet policy at work for a quote... surely they could vouch for my record, if no-one else could...

Err, yes they could, trouble was, they also revealed a claim that was made 10 months ago that had slipped my mind...

I had to have my car repaired last year after some had driven into the back corner, and driven off without leaving his/her details.

Hence the claim.

Hence the reason I can't be covered for less than £3k!

I can't believe I have been a timewaster to the great bloke who even put it through a new MOT for me. John, if you read this, I'm truly sorry, but I wish you luck with selling.

Theres no way I can justify £3000 for insurance. what a rip off

If anyone is looking for a sound, well cared for S2, please e-mail me and I can give you the guys number.

£5750

In red, needs a few bits and bobs, but really sound chassis and a great drive... could do with the Leather cleaning and a polish... but I'd rather spend the money in those areas, than in repairing rotten chassis.

Like I say, mail me if interested, the car is in the South West. (I drove from kent because it seemed so genuine, and it was)

I presume that is fully comp. Did you consider going TPFT for a year while you build up a record, or a large excess to bring the premium down? I remember the day we collected our first Tiv, went to the local insurance agent to pick up the cover note, and only then discovered that they would only cover the Wife TPFT because she was under 25. Had to live with that for a year. Did you try the specialists in Sprint - I've always found these companies to give the best quotes.

Good luck.

Third Party... Not with my meagre savings i'm afraid! Theres no way I would risk losing something I had paid £6000 for, for the sake of saving a few hundred quid on insurance.

That and the fact there would be outstanding finance, and no car if the worst was to happen.

Tried just about everyone... shedloads of independant brokers etc as well as direct, even ended up talking to little one man band brokers and some scary sounding blokes who 'did kneecaps'

I spent the best part of a week getting quotes... and my boss wonders why my figures dropped last week

I have a plan of self improvement now, and a picture of a tuscan nailed to my wall, where the pic of the ex used to reside

I have no doubt it was one of the first places you tried but did you call Direct Line. I similarly had only company car no claims for which the MD of the company wrote a letter confirming this was the case and they accepted it, my girlfriend at the time of insurance was 24 and I paid something like £900 (with protected no claims, legal, the works, premium £150). Renewed last week at £740 - I am sure they can do better than 3K. Do you have points on your license?

No points

But I've had a claim within the last year...

Zero NCB + TVR + No experience that seems to count + 23 years of age = Big Cheque for Mr Insurance

Wigmore, nr. Rainham.
E-mail me off group if you want to take a look. On axle stands at the moment treating the outriggers (sound, thankfully) and replacing some fuel lines.

King Richard - give Heritage classic insurance (www.heritage-quote.co.uk, 08458118118) a look. My Wedge is on a fully comp policy, inc UK and Europe breakdown cover, for under £300 (5000 miles a year). I know someone with an S who had a quote around £250 ayear (he had no TVR experience but was in his 40's). They dont require NCB on classic ins either.

Best of luck
