Replacing front bushes in an easy way
Discussion
Dear all,
I have searched the forum and the “bible” for a way to get the old bushes out from the control arms when replacing them with new ones. In most cases some violence seems to have been involved.
I just thought I would share how I did it.
I bought a cheap 2 legged puller with lockable arms, please see picture. Then I adjusted the arms to hold the wishbone but not the rubber and just turned the screw. To get at better centring I used a Nyloc nut between the screw and the steel centre of the bushing. The “dome” on the Nyloc nut facing the steel tube and the point on the puller screw goes into the other side.
The old rubber will deform slightly and slide between the legs and the bushing will come right out.
Very easy and no damages on the control arm or the paint.
Kind regards
//Rob

When getting the new ones in I used a wise as everyone else and that was easy. Getting the control arms back on the cars was worse. The new Poly bushes was wider and the control arm was difficult to hold in to get the bolts back.
I ended up with using a ratchet lashing to force the control arm in so I could put the bolts back. One end was anchored in the shock mount and the other end in the frame on the opsite site of the car. Then just "ratchet" the control arm into place.
Worked fine and no violence involved.
Just my 25 cents.
