Long story short I was in an accident a month ago and my renewal is coming up. I got an email about two weeks ago telling me how much it's going to cost at renewal and all the policy documents, in the policy documents it says I have one years NCB. However when I called up my insurance company they told me my NCB is at zero since the liability of the accident is still being investigated (taking a bloody long time!), Until it's been settled my NCB will apparently remain at zero. The thing is I'm going to change to a different insurer at renewal since I can save pretty much half of what I'm paying now. So when they ask about my NCB do I say I have one year since I have that in writing or zero? Also since the claim still hasn't been settled who should I put down as being at fault. In my eyes I wasn't at fault at all and have an eye witness that can testify (gave his details to my insurer) and have CCTV footage(taking a while to get a hold off...).

You currently have zero no claims bonus so that is the amount you declare

What will happen if my NCB get reinstated, will I get a rebate on my insurance since there's a massive difference between zero NCB and one year NCB.

Yes you should get a rebate, assuming the claim doesn't go down as a fault claim.

You need to discuss the circumstances with your new insurer, if liability is still not settled they will take that into account, just talk it through with them and they'll tell you exactly what will happen.

I can't emphasise enough that you need to discuss the situation in detail with your new insurer to give you the best chance of avoiding any nasty surprises in future. Forums are good for advice but the exact terms and conditions of the policy you're looking at taking out are what you need to know.

Yeah I'll definitely discuss with them. I just called my current insurer telling them I'm going to cancel and they told me I have one years worth of NCB and the claim is a non fault claim but it's still being investigated? Not sure what that means but they said they will send an email of proof of no claims bonus.

You are not cancelling your insurance. You are just not renewing with them. The two are totally different situations. Be careful how you word things as insurers record all calls.

Yeah should have made that a bit clearer. I cancelled my renewal and my insurance will continue until it expires. Just confused about this NCB since last week I called and they said I have zero and now they sent me an email with one years NCB. Need to get more clarification.
