Choosing the right small car - Help needed
Discussion
Currently looking to purchase a new car (new to my mum anyway)
The criteria for the car is:
- Has to be an automatic
- Needs to be small with a high up position
The cars that come to mind are:
- VW Up
- Peugeot 108/ Citroen C1
- Smart Forfour
Any of other suggestions?
Are the automatics any good in these cars?

Be careful, the Up/Citigo/Mii & Ayygo/C1/108 aren't true autos they're automated manuals. They don't do hill start (ie they roll back and you have to use the handbrake). The smallest ones with a torque converter auto are the Kia Picanto and Hyundai i10. I recently did a change for my mum and that was a critical issue as she was downsizing from an auto Focus. We went for the Picanto and she's absolutely delighted with it. We got the run-out model for £3500 off list and it came with 7 year warranty. Decent drive too !
I'd say the Clio 1.2 auto is a good shout with a nice high up driving position.

Thanks for the suggestions
The Abarth and A1 are amazing cars but out of her price range
The Suzuki Ignis is not her cup of tea
When it comes to the Yaris, she tried my dad’s and she found the wiper to be too intrusive, but will try and get her in one again and test it out properly (She is picky)
And for the ForTwo, she needs four seats so the ForFour might be the better choice
Her previous car was a Vauxhall Agila but now she wants something with a bit more tech and easier to drive.

Will be going to test drive the UP and 108 on the weekend. The Honda garage is near the VW one so will have to pop down and check out the Jazz.
Edit: Not to keen on the looks of the Jazz
There is nothing more boring than keep taking your car in for repairs! Believe me, stylish looks either 1) you get used to and become meaningless 2) date. That is why the Golf sells so well, it evolves.Edit: Not to keen on the looks of the Jazz
