Help needed picking a new car
Discussion
Posted here before and I am here yet again, my car history is as follows, Clio 1.4, 2013 1l Ecoboost Fiesta (pretty quick actually) and now I have a 2007 1.6 Astra which I bought as I wanted to sell it as I would make most my money back, now 6 months later I am regretting it as it was really well specced, good on fuel, free tax and pretty fast, I am 26, 2 years NCB and currently 6 months into my 3rd year of driving, the Astra has really bad MPG for the power it gives, currently avg of 28mpg which wouldn't bother me too much but it's not interesting and I can't live with it, my Fiesta did 40mpg+ driving pretty briskly, so I am here to ask for recommendations as to what to buy, my budget is anything from 6-10k although some of this will be funded by a bank loan, I have savings set aside but wont touch that, so my ideal car would be relatively new 2011+ less than 60k miles, fast so around 0-60 in 9s or less (that's fast for me) and reasonably reliable, mainly the car will be used for town driving and the weekends on b-roads.
I have in mind so far a F20 118i M Sport with heated seats.
Mercedes C180 AMG Sport (Not keen on £500 service cost)
Seat Leon MK3 1.8 FR
MK6 Golf GTI
Focus 1.6 Ecoboost 182 (Worried about clutch problems)
Mazda 3 2.0 Sport (Not fast and bad MPG but reliable and cheap)
Now bare in mind my insurance for some reason is unusually high, my Astra with 2 years NCB cost £1200 but I am willing to pay a decent amount for the right car.

So you want to sell the Astra because the MPG isn't great, yet the list of possible replacements won't be that much better on fuel and given you have only had the Astra 6 months you would have lost a few ££'s too. Either stick with the Astra if you like everything else or go back to a 1.0 fiesta

Fiesta Zetec S 140. You liked the Fiesta before, and the cars you listed would be at least as expensive as the Astra. Especially the Merc and BMW (I've had to pay Mercedes prices for Smart parts and service, it's not smart).
Well, you can't go wrong with the Fiesta. BMW actual parts prices are not that dear, it is the silly dealer hourly labour rate that screws you, so you need a friendly and trusted independent. I was not clear what size of car or type of driving you do (local or long commute) - that and insurance costs may dictate a lot. These are a good shout & you'll have 3 years worth of manufacturers warranty still on the car.
Kia Pro C'eed GT 2013 30/38k 200bhp these come loaded with kit, you also benefit from getting a Focus sized car for Fiesta money.

It's a lovely-looking car aesthetically and the interior could be one of the best i've ever sat in. However, the performance was a real let-down for me and didn't even feel particularly fast. The engine didn't make much sense at all but you do get alot for your money.Kia Pro C'eed GT 2013 30/38k 200bhp these come loaded with kit, you also benefit from getting a Focus sized car for Fiesta money.

What about a Fiesta ST? On the used market, they look like the bargain of the century right now. Bar the interior, it did everything better than the KIA and so much more. I just wanted one straight away after the first 5 minutes driving the thing!

Well worth considering I'd say.

Thanks for the replies, have found a Black Edition which is 140bhp for £7500 @ 59k miles, very interested as my old Fiesta was very good, also had a mint green courtesy car 140bhp Fiesta which felt a lot different to mine, thanks for the help,
I'd look at the link above an extra 60bhp over the Fiesta with more kit take one for a test drive before you take the plunge.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
