Just further to the speed hump thread a predicament has come up, one that I'm not too sure of the outcome should I get caught.

Near me there is a road (image below) which has pillow speed humps in both lanes, the NS being a bus lane. In my car I am unable to pass over a pillow speed bump without grounding the front splitter (unmodified car, but low - Lotus Exige).

Normally to get over these bumps I need to straddle both, with a wheel on each, at ~0.5 mph. In this case that would put me 1/2 into the bus lane, assuming it was just to pass over the bump (each one) and I returned immediately would it result in a ticket?

Example road:

Only if they catch you. You could use the single one on the other side for extra style points.

I hate traffic-calming.

Those things are particularly idiotic as any higher and softly sprung car or any Transit-style van doesn't need to slow down for them at all.
If captured by camera I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised for you to get fined, as technically it is an offence and that's all they care about.

Is indeed

Aim would be to not get caught but doesn't always work like that!

Can you not just pull across to park, ... and then change your mind. Looks like crossing the bus lane to park on the (marked) pavement is allowed.

Bloody traffic calming. Local chavs with lowered Honda Civics hold up all the traffic, causing pollution, & anybody with a 4x4 or motorcycle doesn't have to slow down at all. furious

Its ditch the lotus or go another way.

Bus fines are mostly about revenue generation and we get tickets for our vehicle if they see any part of our vehicles entering them.

Always the aim, only issue with this one is it's one of the few (practical) ways to get to the GF's parents house.

I am generally an avoider of all kinds of bumps, roads and even rain in this car - need to keep it 100%!

Elise seems to have a normal 6" clearance but the Exige a measly 130mm. Still you should be able to get over that as humps shouldn't exceed 100mm and if you put the nearside wheels even partly up the hump then you should clear it easily. I note there's only one hump on the way back anyway so if you really have to and do use the bus lane then you'll be stuck on the other side.

Indeed, may be 130mm but with the numberplate mounting bracket the plate hangs another ~20-30mm lower than that - well until I can get a 3/4 size one made that is.

Do you mean that Lotus engineering can't even design a number plate bracket?

Often user error. No need for the plate to be lower than the bodywork/front splitter.

What a relief, I used to be a Lotus fan and to think if I bought another I'd have to drive in the bus lanes with an illegal midget plate wouldn't go down well.

What era Exige? I had an '07 era Exige S from 2007-2009 and mine used to clear humps without scraping, including a pretty high nasty ridged one on the industrial estate I worked on at the time, and few pillow types that were right at the limit allowed.

About 10 years ago I was out with a friend in his Atom and he took to a bus lane to avoid the 2 massive full road width mounds that the car would certainly not have gotten over.

Unfortunately he did this in view of a police car which promptly pulled us over. He got to spend about 45 mins in the back of the police car getting torn a new one but I think in the end he just got a producer. He was the lucky one. I had to sit freezing to death in the Atom!

The copper was insistent that if the car cant make it over the bumps then we should have planned a different route.
