Motherboard question
Discussion
Hi,
I have a VIA P4X400 motherboard and I have just bought a 250Gb HDD and it just won't recognise it (BIOS won't).
I have flashed the BIOS to the latest "large capacity HDD" version and still no joy.
I found a site (Soyo <- brand??) that says their motherboard (P4X400 Dragon Lite) only recognises up to 200GB - I think this is basically the same board as mine... but would anyone know for sure?
Also, if it is a board limitation - does it mean a new motherboard or can I get a PCI controller that will support it?
If a new board - can anyone help me (off line if needs be) to source another one as I don't really want to start again with CPU, memory etc.
Thanks in advance,
Phil

If you do get an internal card, I would have it be your boot device (and change the setting in BIOS to allow it to boot from that device). This way you can rest assured that the card controller BIOS will be loaded on boot...
...also - if you do reload windows to the new drive on the card, don't forget to have a floppy available with the drivers for the card (unless it's on the Windows Hardware list - like most of the Promise controllers and a goodly amount of the Adaptec controllers)
Cheers

Something along these lines may do the trick:

Thanks Ernest too, I think I'll have to read your post a couple of times but it mostly makes sense!

Thanks again both of you!
