I've sold a house and have 150k left over from the sale, I may buy another property and rent it out or me and the Mrs could pool our resources and buy a bigger place so I really need to have the money to hand if possible.

I know I shouldn't just stick 150k in one bank account so apart from sticking it in a couple of accounts with different banks what can I do with it?

Cheers.

To keep it safe, thats all you need to do - why do anything more complicated?

If you want better returns you'll obviously have to define 'safe' wink

+1. The direct saver at 0.7% isn't bad if you think you may need the money soonish and can't be bothered splitting across multiple accounts.

I may be wrong but thought following a house sale you get much higher limits of protection for up to 6 months just as you would with a Divorce ?

Cheers I'll have a look, I have no plans on buying anywhere but if I drive past somewhere I like I might be tempted hence the easy access.

£50k each in Premium Bonds. Safe as houses but no guarantee for growth.

As has been said, split between the two highest paying deposit account (make sure they have different banking licences), NS&I or premium Bonds.

Anything else is over complicating a simple situation.
