I'm looking for a reasonably priced reliable carrier for small to medium items.
MyHermes looks OK but wondering what my other options are.
Cheers.

Hi dudleybloke,

How many items are you sending per day?

I work for https://www.parcelhub.co.uk which may be worth a look, provided that you are shipping a minimum of 20 parcels/day.

Thanks

Steer well clear of MyHermes...
No point me giving details here it'll only get deleted, but consistently terrible experiences both sending and receiving.

At work we ship a modest amount per day (5-10) and due to the semi fragile and bulky nature of the goods we tend to have a few issues with damage - some of the product doesn't really lend itself to going through the networks so we tend to have to swap between providers . Here is my basic thoughts based on my experience of them over the last 2 years:

UPS Brilliant online system, parcel almost always goes when it should. Claims very easy but invoicing a nightmare. Discounts changing with no notice, incorrect weights/dimensions leading to being overcharged.

DX Probably best overall, website not bad, reasonably efficient and a good record of getting material to where it should be at the right price. Claims not easy though, almost zero tolerance and excess' makes it hardly worthwhile claiming for what we shipped.

TNT Never damaged anything but website wasn't great, issues with overcharges and calibre of staff poor in my experience. No back up when anything went wrong.

DPD is the best courier that we have ever used.
Our customers (both B2B and B2C find their service excellent)

UPS are good
UK Mail are decent
Parcel Force are decent
FedEx are decent

My Hermes don't bother
Yodel Don't bother

We have used them all and DPD/DPD Local are the best overall balancing out national and international deliveries.

Thanks for the replies.
Number of packages will vary but I would probably want 2 collections a week.
I will give the options a bit of research and decide what is best for me at the moment.
Thanks for the advice.

I have accounts with UPS and DPD Local and they offer some good rates.

There are a lot of brokers out there now too. Inxpress, Interparcel and World Options. they use all the main couriers but get huge discounts due to volumes.

Worth a look

Having used them for over 15yrs I'd have to agree.

Unless UK Mail have seriously improved in recent years, I wouldn't be recommending them (we also used them for many years).
