Shrewsbury Cameras snap up 8,000 in first year

Today's Shropshire Star
Shrewsbury's speed cameras have snared more than 8,000 motorists in their first year, raking in nearly £500,000 in fines, it was revealed today.
The cameras on Spring Gardens, Longden Road and Mytton Oak Road were switched on at the beginning of April last year and bosses from West Mercia Safety Camera Partnership say they are "disappointed" that many drivers are continuing to speed on the roads.
And in a surprising twist, accidents on two of the roads have increased since the cameras were installed.
The two cameras on Spring Gardens, covering both directions of the road, have caught 4,179 motorists exceeding the 30mph limit since they went live. Meanwhile the camera on Mytton Oak Road has snapped 3,268 offences.
People driving on Longden Road have fared slightly better, with 660 offences recorded up until March 31.
Officials from the partnership are still in negotiations with Shropshire County Council about the siting of a further camera on Smithfield Road.
I'm pleased to say the Shropshire Star is a bit anti scameras. In their comments column they say..
......There are, of course, good reasons for keeping cameras - nearly 500,000 of them. But motorists will legitimately ask this: If they don't improve safety, what's the point in them?

Of course not.
With a few very obvious exceptions, accidents tend to be scattered.
The claim that "accidents have reduced at a certain spot" actually means "within about a mile of a certain spot".
This is farcical ; even my old 800cc Daewoo Matiz could get up to 80 mph in a mile.
The other thing is numbers. The numbers may be large for the country but for individual spots they are small.
It is a rule of statistics that you cannot do something with low numbers. If there were 3 deaths last year and 1 this year you cannot, as the Scumera mobs do, claim a reduction of 66%.
The stats from these scumera people are so laughably dishonest the statisticians have to know they are not being honest.
And that's before good old RTTM !
