Hi All,

Being the muppet I am I have probably got caught leaving a 30 rather briskly (read 40 unfortunately)

No signage whatsoever a mile in either direction that they were trapping - I probably have no leg to stand on but just wondering?

Thanks

I've had the same feeling passing camera at 40, on more than one occasion. I have somehow avoided a ticket every time, I just put it down to speedo error and camera tolerance. You might get lucky OP.

I would hope sanity would prevail and the camera was looking in the other direction "helping" drivers to slow down as they entered the village.

It would feel too much of a cash cow to be the other way round and not in keeping with the spirit of the law.

Nope. That's how they get ya, i'm afraid!

I'm not advocating speeding here in any way but, if there is signage for fixed speed cameras, why not for mobile ones? That's right, to catch you to raise a bit of cash to put towards their Christmas do.

Safety reasons my ar5e!

I understand that these things are recommended, but not compulsory, and likely varies force to force. Much like around here, there are always the 1 foot square camera symbols attached to lamp posts just ahead of a speed trap.
On that note, I went down a nice local twisty B road the other day, and outside the only house on it the walt has stolen such a sign, and printed below the symbol 'Average cameras'. Yeah, shame there's no sight of blue poles with two yellow vultures on them, but that's maybe for the 'one single thing which makes you think tt' thread rolleyes

Fixed cameras don't need warning signs either. I can think of a few that don't. Also, we don't get the money from speeding fines so sorry to burst your bubble, but you don't fund our xmas do. Last year we all had to pay £50 out our own pockets for a table and 3 course meal! Outrage!!!

No, they don't require signs.

But there's usually someone flashing their headlights warning you that there's one ahead, that's a sign.

Unfortunately the only time I have been done for 'speeding' was 34 in a 30 on the way out of a village into NSL. The camera was placed next to the change in speed limit sign. Cha-ching!

At Ollerton, Notts, that's exactly what they do, get people picking up speed LEAVING the town. On the photo below, the tree to the left of the road, pretty much centre pic, opposite the furthest cottages. Right BANG next to the NSL sign! The scattering of properties, that's it, then NSL. Many pick up to may be 40 in preparation for open roads. Idiots, so cynical.

Which is now an offence in itself, funnily enough.

I never said they did, i just said that there can be signs for fixed cameras. You almost always never get any heads-up for mobile ones. You may get speed enforcement zone signs, meaning it's a common area for it. I'd probably say that they are few and far between though.

Fixed cameras are also usually painted bright yellow and can also have road markings to signify their presence. Again, no such warning for the mobile jobbies. As someone said below, they can be found on stretches of road where the speed limit suddenly drops. Funny that.

Has anyone been prosecuted for this?
