Urgent - 1.9 GT Little response from throttle

Just been on a ferry for 2 hours parked with the cars nose down on a slope. Come back to the car, started up fine, but white-ish smoke and no response from the throttle at all.
Eventually, with massaging the throttle the engine started to rev but it seems to be really unresponsive and the revs are going a little low at idle at times. Haven't yet got through customs so not sure what it's like on the open road.
Head gasket?
Edit: Now driven across Guernsey. Car took 30 seconds to clear the issue and now seems to drive OK. There is quite a smell of diesel when the engine is running/driving along too.
However, it does not seem to be down on power nor is the engine overheating. There are no warning lights on either. Just waiting for the engine to cool down before checking fluids and stuff.

I park my GT nose-down on a slope every day without issues, so I think the slope is just coincidence
If you have a 10mm spanner, take the engine cover off and check the unions on the high pressure fuel pipes to the injectors and all around the fuel lines - you'll soon know if you have a diesel leak
Very rare for a headgasket to go on the 1.9 Jtdm lump, unless you're running loads of extra boost (and even then, it seems to be able to take far more than standard before it lets go) Worth keeping an eye on the coolant level though (and also check for water in the oil - just undo the oil cap and check for the tell-tale white gunk)
I'd normally associate an unwillingness to rev with low fuel pressure, a dodgy MAF, sticky turbo vanes or a swirl flap stuck in the turbo (you REALLY don't want that....)
The fact that its running OK now would suggest it was "just one of those things" - keep an eye on everything though

I had my foot to the floor on the throttle and the engine was not revving at all. I originally thought the cable had snapped. Would a dodgy earth cause the issue?
There is a flat spot or hesitation at part throttle when cruising so a dodgy MAP or TPS maybe?

I had spent a couple of days driving around a small town and then parked it for nearly 2 days before a 1 mile drive to the ferry port, so it's not done many miles before the ferry trip and not at any speed.
