SOUTH STAFFS ETC.

Anyone? Cost no object as this is birthday present.

Where's the best place to get a really good quality, beautifully cooked (medium rare) steak in the stated environs, please?

If it's anything like the one in the mailbox I'd struggle to recommend it.

Gaucho is pretty good.

Birmingham seems to lack a really good steakhouse.

Been to Cau and it was pretty good. I looked at Fiesta Del Asado, too. Might try that as it gets good reviews on TA.

M&C are a bit hit and miss in my experience, probably dependent on the chef on the night and pot luck meat selection.

Update: Booked Fiesta Del Asado

Thanks all!

Just chatting to SWMBO and her friends have had a couple of bad experiences at M&C! Luckily we haven't.

However should you wish to try something a little different and willing to travel a little further in the future, heres a place i would highly recommend and definitely haven't had any bad experiences and the steaks are cooked exactly how YOU want them smile

Bank on Brindley Square does some decent steaks.

Also agree with Fiesta Del Asado (The Sea bass there is better though!)

I've had many excellent steaks at The Gate at Bournheath - near Bromsgrove

Thanks. I've booked Fiesta Del Asado now but The Gate is on the list for a run out on the motorcycle.

I've been a regular at the Gate for over 20 years, good honest food, good sized portions and a nice setting. If you think you can finish 3 courses then the Mexican and American night specials on Monday and Tuesday are worth doing.
I do recommend Cau on Brindley Place, I think it punches above its Trip Advisor rating, the steaks are awesome.

I'll go back to Cau another time. Only been for a fixed price menu deal so often not really representative of what they can do (defeats the object I always think).

My office is based in Brum and I regularly stay over, so I'm reasonably conversant with the restaurants on Broad St and the Mailbox.

Fiesta del Asado is by for the best steak place in the area.

My personal recommendation is the Bife de Lomo, perfect every time....

Wall's not far so will check that out for sure.

Staffordshire Grill seems even closer, but just spotted something on the menu which made me giggle:

apparently you can have "Soup of the Moment"!!!!!!!!!!
