Okay, just wondering if anyone can help identify the method used to obtain the "look" on these excellent photos from a Flickr user.
Ignore the first couple of pics on his page please, then look at the others; particularly looking how he has achieved the soft-focus, "pastel effect", that he has on so many of his photos...

Is this a special filter, like some sort of polarizing filter, or is the done in post, on Photoshop, or similar ?

I have trawled the internet looking for an answer already, but cannot find what I`m looking for.

Not sure if this is allowed here, posting the link to his Flickr page, but I`ll post it in the hope that it doesn`t get pulled by the mods.

Any advice on his method welcome; cheers

The images look like film effect filters have been used in post processing - search for that or 'VSCO' or 'Nik Collection' to see some examples.

Most of those can be achieved with the standard filter options you get on Photos (Mac).

Other than that, reasonably easy to create in Lightroom. Unlikely the effects would have been done in-camera.

Why don't you send still_shotz a Flickr mail and ask how he achieved the effect? I think most Flickr users are quite happy to share processing information.

No problem!

As Rob said, you can achieve the effect by doing the adjustments yourself, but there are lots of plug ins out there to get you started, especially for the 'film' look. They are only like Instagram filters, after all.

It helps knowing how to treat each image and that guy actually has a good eye for composition too.

Cheers Peter, Rob: I`d actually had a go at it in Photoshop, trying various methods and blending layers etc...but I just wasn`t able to crack it properly, but this does the trick now.

As you say Rob, there`s more to it than just applying a quick filter though, it`s how and where to apply it !

Thanks again gents

Alien Skin is another option. I use Lightroom for almost all of my work, but when you just want a "fast and dirty" look to a photo a quite blast through the presets usually does the business.
