Nurburgring Classic

We're off to the Ring for the weekend, eurotunnel Thursday, gentle drive Thurs/Fri, at the Ring Sat and Sun, Healey Museum in Holland and overnight ferry Monday.

If you see a convoy of Healeys (Abbott, Elliott, Silverstone, Tickford) then that's us!

Will post some pics but might not be til we're back.

I go to this fantastic event every year, it'll be Saturday for me as it's a little less crowded and still chocka full of wonderful cars. Going in my modern so purely on foot when there...

Not sure what the parkring is, our German club members haveorgnaised it but I would xpect that if there is classic parkring on the infield we'll have it.

We had rain Thu and Fri on the drive down, more on Sat at the circuit but nice and sunny Sunday at the circuit.

I passengered round the Nordschlief and all I can say is fking fkity fkity fking fk, it was scary! I wasn't driving, the driver wasn't going very fast but there were times with drum brakes, narrow tyres and 1940s suspension thet it was hairy, particularly the downhills over the bck of the circuit when you wonder if it's going to stop!

It's a long time since I was able to drive round the Nordschleife but my first go at it (in 1959!) was in my Lea-Francis 2½ Sports (see below) which would compare well with whichever Healey you were in. I'm no racing driver and approached it more as a rally stage and jolly good fun it was too - my German friend who put me up to it claimed we were within 10 minutes of a good Porsche time which sounded a bit optimistic. However I now see that Herrman/Maglioli averaged 10min 30 sec for their 44 laps in the 1000km in June that year so his claim was not that unreasonable as it represented a 42 m.p.h. average speed!
