Has anyone owned or driven either of these ? still toying with the idea of a complete fleet change and the Fiesta keeps coming up as a good station car, most at the price level i'm looking at seem to be the 1.6 although I think i would prefer the 1.0, thats assuming the powershift would take a remap smile

You should read this:

I'd suggest going Japanese - Mazda and Suzuki still sell small cars with torque converter autos.

The swift and the Mazda 2 are good choices but we just prefer the look and feel of the fiesta.

We've had our 1.0 Ecoboost Powershift for 3 years and its been faultless.

I think there are issues with a remap as it exceeds the limits of the gearbox.

The manual gearbox doesn't have a great torque rating either. There have been reports of gearbox issues with remapped cars. Probably not an issue on the new Fiesta with the speed manual box though.

Great ride and handling though. Get one with a Ford backed warranty if you can.

I'm trying to keep under 8k which brings up mainly 1.6's and most are outside the ford network but some do have the balance of manufacturers warranty. I had read somewhere that ford were unofficially covering the early powershift cars for 5 years, not sure if that's true though. Regular gearbox fluid changes would be carried out though.

How cheap are Nisan Micras .... 8.5k gets you something less that a year old, I just couldn't live with the interior though.

.
The extension of warranty on the Powershift cars is correct, I saw it on ETIS for my car when I searched. I also read somewhere of this only being honoured if fluid changes had been kept to which is a bit worrying as I understand its 3 years and I'm pretty sure the Ford dealer I had the 3 year service at didn't do it so need to check up on this.
