Government Agency exposes drivers details
Discussion
Not in this country thankfully.
A government Agency in Sweden has made a huge error and made details of drivers and vehicles and even military and secret service vehicles available to foreign workers, during an IT upgrade... two years ago.
Details are only just becoming public.

And we thought the DVLA were inept!
However it made me wonder, what recourse if any is available should anyone find that their private details have become exposed, either by a government or private individual or organisation?
We are due to have legislation that can have social media companies delete information they hold, and a ban on prefilled tick boxes giving companies cart blanche to share or contact you via details given - but I am unsure to whome this actually applies.

Got time for a dissenting opinion?I've done IT work for them.
In point of fact their IT staff* are professionals who know what they are about, and get on with it despite having a crap reputation.
They are horribly underfunded and understaffed compared to a commercial organisation trying to do similar things, and it makes moving forward/modernising slow and painful.
They actually know quite well what they'd like to do, they just don't have the resources to get on with it.
*= the ones I've met, obviously.
If you'd asked me before I went there what I thought of the DVLA guys I'd have said something like "large number of people who don't have a clue, and don't care". It's the opposite.

I would agree with you.I've done IT work for them.

In each case that I have had issues with them, it has been a single individual acting on their own that has been the cause of the problem.
Well, except for the two times when the computer revoked my license 12 months apart on the assumption that I had not returned my license to have points added - which I had!
Too many IT services are outsourced to the bidder with the lowest costs, and it soon becomes obvious when the failings mount up - like the BBC license fee, where the innocent are hounded to buy a license that they do not need.
However, this failing in security dwarfs everything else I have encountered with the DVLA, who at least get paid for divulging the information that they hold!
