...lots of fuss being made when they try a prank, like getting on a 'plane or ram-raiding a local castle with a "fake bomb", and them getting caught.

Do you think they try it on all the time and get the living daylights kicked out of them by security as they truly deserve?

Or do you think that it's never happened that they've been rumbled..........

If they say they are demonstrating how to easy it is to break security, the authorities should demonstrate how is easy it is to lock them up for 30 years and throw away they key.

Win win situation for the papers.

If they do get rumbled then no one's going to know! Ever!

It would be nice to see other papers snitching on the journalists that do fail. That should cut down the amount that try this sort of stunt.

I'm in two minds about this. In one respect I agree with you but on the other it shows that security is crap, what is the point of saying how much the security is costing but then it can be breached so easily.

Can you imagine the outcome if the worst did happen?

Indeed that is a factor but it should be up to the security services to attempt a breach with a 'mystery terrorist' rather than some gutter publication thats just trying to shift papers...

You can employ consultants to test computer system security. Why not employ another type of consultant to test physical security?

I believe there are some such people about.

It shouldn't come down to some journalist to point out the flaws.

If I walked into Heathrow and told someone I was holding a bomb, regardless of whether it was fake or not I would be locked up for a long time.

Journos who do the same thing should be treated by the same rule.

Lock the buggers up....

I perform some IT pen testing, some of my colleagues specialise in physical security and try to gain access to sensitive areas for a wide range of clients. There can look at a place and within a minute or so list many ways of gaining entry to most place without the need for any social engineering.

But taking airport security as an example, it's no bad thing. Internal security checks could highlight certain shortfalls, but due to budgetary or other considerations, they might be covered up. Other factors can also be brought to light, such as the millions of dollars worth of screening equipment in US airports that is assuaging passengers' fears, but is lying idle as there is no money left in the purse to train personnel in their use, or employ specialist personnel.

Continuing with this example, what is wrong with a reporter highlighting how he/she circumvented security?

It is a worthwhile event When it is done by a professional journalist or media company; to uncover real lapses in security, where secutiry is paramount, such as a passenger plane. But when it is carried out by overgrown schoolkids working for an adult comic, the legitimate agenda goes out the window, and like much else in this country, the issue is considered 'property' by the whores of fleet st.

It would make a nice change to see an undercover documentary on one of these left wing organisations like the CRE, OR Muslim council for Britain, just to hear the racist comments and extremist views of these people behind closed doors, or stonewall, to hear their plans to undermine heterosexual rights in favour of gay rights.
Now that would make a refreshing change to the BNP, a bit of balanced reporting.

Took it to police station with a smirk....

Got charged with possession of a firearm

It wasn't a problem, 'cos they weren't actually a threat - if they had have been, then the Bobby on the gate would surely have noticed.

Mind you, I wouldn't like to be in that Bobby's size 12's when the Commander got hold of him.
