Problems with Nobles
Discussion
I remember the day when I picked this car up, so exited about the prospect, so let me just say, when this car is running well, I love it, no doubt about it. It’s a fantastic drive and lots of fun.
but, believe me, I have bitten my teeth so many times with the problems, but there is only so much a man can take before I start to question my own sanity.
This car is a joke to all my friends, and I can’t blame them really, since it does spend most of its life in and out of the garage and this is not the one attached to my house!
Here are some of the problems I have had with the car …
Air Con Unit not working - When I first acquired the car the company informed me that it was not working, they replaced it at the first 1000mile service, it then repeatedly broke down.
Speedo Jumps up when driving – this has been a continuous problem since day one. Though “repaired” it has never been resolved to work more than 2 days.
Headlights seem low on normal beam – This took three attempts to correct
Water entry and corrosion of lights – occurred after the first week, service engineer sealed unit with water left in, so it corroded.
Exhaust had become loose – this has happened a few times and in turn resulted in the turbo coming loose and nearly falling off!
Turbo had become loose – precariously hanging on and nearly fell off
Heat cladding under exhaust - coming apart
Large 40 AMP fuse – blew while driving, with the engine cutting out and losing all power including electrics as well was lost, temporarily replaced with the other 40AMP fuse (air con etc one) to fix.
Driveshaft – been replaced three times
Windscreen Wiper failed – when the car was serviced the wiper did not cover the whole screen, so it has to go back in for re-service. Just failed again on me, in the lane 3 on the M6, pouring rain, heavy traffic … this is not for the faint hearted and I feel could have resulted very easily in a bad situation.
Disks and pads – had to be replaced after the first 1k miles and even now, after bedding them in correctly as told my Noble engineer, they are not satisfactory as they have a pronounce vibration.
Throttle Cable – This stuck while heading north on the motorway and I found myself breaking the speed limit in seconds … I was only thankful the traffic was not heavy otherwise, it could have ended badly. Is this yet another problem the factory know about??? Why, oh why has everyone with not been contacted and at least given the option to have the cars fixed?? I feel this is a very serious matter here.
I picked up the car 2 weeks ago; the dealer had had the car for months, so plenty of time to make sure it works correctly.
When the car accelerates is judders like its miss firing or something, no good when trying to overtake, I can assure everyone!
Speedo, yet again
Water in the spoiler!!!!??!?
Wind screen wipers not working as described above
Headlights etc dim every few mins, then come back again! Not ideal when driving at night on the motorway.
I feel its time for me and Mr 3R to part company, but who would buy this car???!!! Let alone would it continue to work while I sold it!! Madness.
And let me ask the question, would any of you be happy with all these problems? and the staggering amount of re occurring issues? I asked a certain member of staff at a certain dealership the same question, he did not answer …

Sorry to hear of your experience! Was the car new or still within factory warranty? If so you may well have recourse under some trading laws.
Agree re the throttle issue. Mine did this on track and had to be trailored home - the throttle cable outer sheath melted as it was touching the forward turbo so got sticky and then loked up at 4000 revs!
I did post this at the time, thinking it serious enough for a recall or bulletin but had to rely on my own diligance in asking the dealer to replace and re-route it.
Good luck and hope you overcome all of your issues and come to enjoy what is a superb sports car!

Sorry to hear of all your troubles. It's these kind of faults that pi55 people off to the point of not wanting the car or another one again, aka my TVR's experiences.
I sincerely hope you can get these issues resolved and start enjoying the car as it is meant to be. When they work there is nothing better !
Your target has got to be the next Rockingham meeting. I've got my fingers and toes crossed that you will get a good result.
I have every confidence that the factory and dealer will help you to a proper conclusion.

Viper,
Its OK to have a rant on a public forum, the fact is that no one can stop you, you can post anything you like at any time you like, just as I am doing at 03:16am on wednesday 13th April. But the flipside is that if the "other party" behave responsibly then you really ought to be honest and let everyone know what happened?
Now although I'm probably fairly well known, I'm no factory stooge - I'm a private owner who pays for everything he gets but it seems like the factory made a perfectly reasonable, open, honest and very public offer to sort your problems out. Did you not take them up on the offer? I've had some greivances with the M12 long before you and a whole load of other watchers ever thought about buying one but I've allways been treated reasonably and fairly by the boys in Leicester. My cars an original "classic" and I would be very concerned if the factory had gone off message re customer support. So is there anything else we ought to know?

I agree.
I have not taken them up on their offer because I am not interested in having the car 'fixed' yet again, its a shame I did not have this offer before now, maybe I would have taken them up, but there you go.
As it stands I don't want to drive the car again, you have to understand that I have picked this car up so many times and I have to keep taking it back, there has to be a point where you say no, I have had enough.
That point was last month, but then, I picked it up again, and guess what? yep, it broke, so there IS NO WAY I AM TOUCHING THIS CAR AGAIN.
As far as the dealer goes, they are just putting their fingers in their ears and singing. They don't care, I question if they ever did after getting my money.
That is why I have decided to go for the ebay item, and the website www.christopherniel.co.uk to let everyone know of my troubles and keep people aware of these matters. Maybe a forum there as well to let the other troubled customers have a little rant ...

viperbl,
I'd say that your comments and experiences are entirely relevant and that this is the place to hear them!
More detail would be useful but I understand the levels of frustration experienced and that you cannot be bothered anymore!
Unfortunately we keep being reminded that this is NOT the place to hear the comments and experiences due to PHs rules.
Viperbl has been more than patient with his vehicle. It's the repeat problems that get everybody pi55ed off and put off the marque; I'm not because mines works but if I have the same level of issues I would feel the same as viperbl. I pray that day never comes but then again perhaps I have learned a very good lesson from my TVR days and know not to put up with crap from dealers. Perhaps a visit to the factory would certainly sort the problems out but it does beg the question why are the dealer not able to sort the issues - they have fixed any minor ones I have had.
When a car is a lemon its a lemon and in my experiences it just breaks all the time.
Fortunately my Noble doesn't and if I had the money I would buy another one and give mine to viperbl.
I sincerely hope he gets his issues sorted out soon. I expect since his Sale Of Goods is with the dealer this is where the stumbling block will be.

Viper,
If you have a problem with a dealer not fixing your car correctally time after time and the FACTORY offer to sort it out for you, IMO you must be crazy not to accept.
The very same thing happens all the time to BMW, Ford owners (friend and Mother) and the Factory would never offer to step in and fix it in a million years.
I understand how frustrating this type of thing can be but when the light appears at the end of the tunnel I am amazed that you did not snap their arm off after such an offer!!
I think a happy end would be for the factory to put a smile on your face and for you to tell us all about that too!!

I feel annoyed when I see a noble on the streets these days, not because I am jealous that they have a noble, but because they have a working one!
In all seriousness the noble experience has been tainted for me now, the car is just bad memories. Its like an x girlfriend, sometimes you want to go back but you know it will never work out, and god knows I have tried many times.
To be honest, I doubt the car would even make the journey down to the factory!!
Anyway, make a Segway Human Transporter is the way forward!

I guess the tough decision would be if you did take it the factory and it did get sorted where would you then get it serviced or any other issues fixed?
I have no doubt in my mind that the factory would sort the car but then again your not exactly round the corner from them are you !
I do understand how you feel mate. I have experienced this with other things (not a car luckily)
But surely its worth getting it all sorted,
a) So you can sell it and not feel guilty, and get a fair price.
b) To show just how good Nobles are when they go correctally.
c) to show how good the factory are at looking after their cars and customers!!
d) To maybe change your mind when its fixed!!
What are you going to do with the car if you don't get it fixed up by the factory??

OK, I hate to say this but...
The factory is not always able to sort out every issue either - I've had some that are deemed to be either "unsortable" or took multiple visits over many months (did this try my patience, wow!) - was I at the point that viperbl is at now - damn well close actually - comments like "OK, you buy it back then" spring to mind!
What I will point out though, as many others have testified to, the level of service, empathy and care from the factory is SECOND TO NONE, if viperbl has not yet had the factory work the issues then perhaps he should GIVE IT ONE MORE GO - after all, his publicity in airing the problems isn't going to sell the car very easily, is it?!!
PS - although my car can now get to Barwell from anywhere in the south by itself it is near darn PERFECT now and any subsequent owner (if there ever is one!) will benefit my earlier tenacity (there's a message in there for you viperbl)! :-)

Watch this space and media in general
Taking the car to be fixed yet again is not an option in my book anymore. I just can't do it.
The dealer know I want them to take the car back, and I am not being unreasonable and asking for all my money back or anything like that. We are only talking a few k over the market value here.
Whilst not personally owning a Noble but having a close friend that does, I think it important to note that...
You have made a clear statement in 'dealer', who are clearly not Noble themselves, and from my 20+ years of driving I would say any garage who are not 110% focused can turn the most reliable of cars into a crock of sh1t.
Whilst you list a handful of major complaints, it is the fact that it has been back in for each of these numerous times, which has given rise to your immense and understandable discontent, personally I would have looked for another dealer, or done as many seem to do and endure the inconvenience of returning it to the factory for work.
You do have a legitimate qualm but rather than dissin a Marque and dragging them through the negative press, I would first give the manufacturer the opportunity to put the car right, given that you do obviously enjoy it when the going is good.
I would personally say you have an experience of an incompetant dealer, not an incompetant manufacturer.
As a paradox, I drive a Honda and I could curdle milk with the issue's I have had but the dealer is fantastic and a credit to Honda's shortcoming.
BTW, I do feel for ya bud
