Hi.

I am selling my Octavia VRS, that did have 4 matching tyres. I come to MOT it before sale and noticed one tyre is badly worn on one edge and needs replacement. I can get a part worn/cheaper new tyre than the 3 that are currently on it but would be a random make.

Would it put you off if you come to view with one mismatched tyre? Rest of the history is complete and the cars in good shape.

Yes it would put me off. If the previous owner had penny pinched on one tyre, what else isnt he telling me.

It would make me think that I need to spend £xxx on two new tyres. It wouldn't necessarily put me off, but I'd be more careful not to pay over the odds.

It depends what end of the market your Octavia is at.

If you're flogging an early vRS for £1,500, the fact it has any tyres at all will be a distinct bonus, never mind the brand! laugh

On the other hand, if your car is a mint condition, low mileage, 4 year old vehicle, then a mismatched tyre would be a definite buyer turn-off.

Most driver will just about notice a tyre missing.
I would guess less than 5% will spot a mis-match tyre. Only some of them will walk away as a result.

If it's a decent brand tyre, absolutely not.

90% won't notice.

Of the 10% who notice, 90% won't care.

Only PH tyre-fetishists who won't get in a taxi without reading a CV for each wheel will care. Save the £40 and put a Landsail on it, spend the £40 on a ridiculous and disgusting takeaway.

I went for a Bridgestone part worn with 6mm tread remaining. Still a decent brand and I do not think any one will really notice/care.

I would have said go for a part worn, and if someone comes to buy it and spots it, give them £50 off towards a new tyre.
