Been a bit of a twit, I accept that. In the "conditional offer" i need to send off my photocard. Fine, but how long will they take to turn it around? I'm off to the US in 4 weeks and will need it to hire the car (and no, there is no one else who can do it as travelling solo)

Thanks for any constructive help

You could tell them that you can't find your licence and fill in a form for a replacement immediately. It is not unheard of for someone to be unable to find their licence when asked to do so.

Then just use your licence for your upcoming trip and destroy it after you return.

I used to travel abroad a lot on business and I had a duplicate licence, not because I feared getting points, but because of the disruption on my business if I had lost or mislaid mine.

When I renewed my licence it took less than a week to get turned around. They're pretty good these days!

Edit to add when I thought I lost my old licence it took about the same to get a replacement, I found the other so had two for a while....

When I got additional provisional categories added to mine earlier this year it was about a 1 week turn around from sending the forms off to receiving the new one.

As above, our house completed Dec 23rd, then missus and I spent a couple of hours on the 24th updating h various accounts (bank etc) including change of address on our licence. Despite silly season the replacements arrived Christmas week.

All very efficient. Well, apart from the V5s which is still archaic

I'm confused by this .
Given the DVLA have gone digital and the photocard is just that and all the information is online , why would they need your licence?
Unless it is an old licence we are talking about but they still check out on the online service ?
I use the DVLA site virtually every day to check riders entitlement or points and all that is required is driver number , national insurance number, postcode and their permission!

The yanks don't do that they want a physical licence. They don't give two hoots about points or categories they just want to see that you have a licence.

Sorry if I was unclear , I meant why would DVLA need your licence back to return it to you , they can do everything remotely?
