Octavia MKII - Turbo Failure?
Discussion
Hi all,
Just wanted to canvas some thoughts on a suspected turbo failure on my MK2 Octy.
1.9 TDI - 120,000 Miles - 08 Plate - Serviced at all regular intervals etc.
Last week whilst in 5th gear heading uphill on motorway, sudden loss of power and smoke out of the back, car felt juddery and wouldn't rev properly.
Managed to get it recovered to a car park and after an hour it started, revved and drove fine around the car park.
Went back to the car park 2 days ago with a mechanic, plugged into diagnostic, only fault showing was underboost. Then drove the car home on hilly roads, experienced the juddery power loss and blue/white smoke again, but no faults would show on the car.
His thoughts are the either the seal or bearings are knackered. The added complication is I'm in France with the car! Mechanic is English though.
Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any thoughts? I can't afford to replace the turbo, so the car will probably have to go to the scrapyard/sold cheap - but if there is anything simple to check before I do that I'd be interested to hear any ideas!
Cheers
