As a Motorcyclist or even pedestrian for that matter I feel very fearful about going into London recently.

The girlfriend used to love visiting oxford street, Camden etc etc with her mates

I used to love riding to Ace Café or The bike shed on Old Street with mine.

But recently neither of us want to go for fear of these recent acid attacks or my bike being stolen from under me or when parked up. Are these feelings justified, I mean I know London is a big place, but it seems every other day we are hearing of an attack.

It's hard to reply without telling you to man up and get the fk on with it.

I moved to Hertfordshire in 2005 just after the 7/7 bombings and went into London most weekends travelling on the tube without a second thought.

Let the bds stop you and they've won.

Don't worry about it, chances are slim

My bike lives on the street in the city with nothing but a disc lock and has done so for 3 years now....never been nicked at work (1 yr old CBR125R/13 year old CBR600f)

I've traveled a lot around the world with work and just before the election, I was supposed to be at a trade show in London. The weekend prior there was an incident, it was minor in comparison to the Manchester bombing a few weeks earlier but enough for me to cancel the trip.

I've never really done that before, but the thought of being stuck in a large exhibition space in an area likely to be a target, just wasnt worth it.

Anyone and everyone can say 'you should go, you cant let them win' but to be honest I'd rather stay alive longer at home than go out defiantly saying 'you'll lose in the end Ahmad' while my legs hanging off and I'm covered in shrapnel.

The population of greater London is around 14m - make your own mind up if this means you'll be attacked?

You're bike is just as safe in London as anywhere else in the UK.
This is Stockport:

( Sorry about the orientation. frown It does that. )

The terrorism thing, you are being a bit "overthinking" - the chances are vanishingly small, and there are many UK resources aimed at spoiling their day.

The acid/bike theft thing, not so much, because it seems to not be a priority. Might be just me not being in that London though.

Wouldn't say im "Scared" of London, just a country boy who doesn't understand the place. Yeah, i want to see the museums and architecture, but to be so far from a place where you're truly out of the way is unnerving. I'd rather be surrounded by dueling banjos than music coming from mobile phones and the high chance of it signalling a mugging.

As a home-counties dweller, and frequent commuter in to London, I don't get the place either. It's not PC to say it, but the overwhelming wave of immigration is constantly changing London, and despite what the lefties say, it's not all for the good - and far from it.

If it help quell your fears, at the recent London Bridge attack, from the first 999 call to the threat being neutralised by force was a total of eight minutes.

My wife suffers from anxiety, and is a textbook worrier and over-thinker.

Year before last we cancelled a trip to the Birmingham Christmas market as she was scared of being in a crowded place like that, she doesn't like crowds in general. Slightly annoying for me tbh, as I enjoy London, and she now refuses to go, and won't let me take our 4yr old son, although I know he'd love going on the tube and such.

You're prepared to ride a bike around London but afraid of a 1 in a 14 million chance of getting attacked.

This has got to be a wind up ?

Your wife sounds exactly like my 25yo daughter, she too suffers from anxiety, worries about everything and also over thinks everything it's bloody annoying sometimes when she's convinced herself she has a brain tumour because of a headache!

A couple of months ago, one Sunday, I was looking after my 3.5 year old grandson (my anxious daughters son), I had planned to take him up to London to the Science and Natural History museums, a few weeks before going, the wife mentioned my plans in passing to my daughter (which I wasn't happy about as I know what she can be like), she said she didn't want him going to London due to the recent terrorist issues.

It all got forgotten about, I still took him, we had a great time and we returned home alive!

Not sure about justified but there's at least a grain of logic to them. It's up to you whether you listen to that one grain of logic or the other 99.9999999% of the logic and just get on with your life. Do you avoid flying in case you get hijacked or the pilot is suicidal? Do you avoid eating a whole range of foods the Daily Fail say might cause you cancer, do you wear a face mask in London for fear of breathing in the smog.

Logic dictates that these fears are irrational, but it's your decision how you live your life.

I'm a big believer in fate and that if something's going to happen to you that it indeed will, it's almost going to be irrelevant how / where / when
