Has anyone successfully installed a sequential gearbox in a TVR please? If so, which type and make? (Achilles condition demands!!)

A customer of mine had one on the rear of his ls engine. It was a race engine with a holinger 6 speedbox.

almost all sequentials available are for race use, so tend to have straight cut gears, so would be horrible in a road car noisy and clunky. a lot of the race boxes also only really like to change properly under full throttle. so again not great for a road car.

I have had an elite 6 speed sequential positioned in a chimaera chassis ok.

Have you considered having a servo fitted to the clutch, this should make it very light. Obviously this would be a special build but I am betting there is a competent engineer out there who could fix up a remote servo for you.

I think racing77 has a seqeuntial box in one of his Tuscan racecars.

Servo assistance might be cheaper.

dave had one is in Tuscan sprint car mated to an LS. it was fine for the track but I understand not pleasant for general use - also stupidly expensive.

some of the DTEC racers have them I believe.

give Quaife a call and discuss (0)1732 741144

they will more than likely do a helical cut one for your casing - will not be cheap

best to ring and talk them through what and why you need

There are some Chimaeras with a clutch servo. The parts cost just over £100 and an easy install on those cars. I fitted my own in the boot as no room under the bonnet or in the front wings. While it does make the clutch a bit lighter, if your condition means no ankle movement then its probably not for you.
If you or anyone else is thinking of one I can post details of parts etc.

Many thx folks...very helpful replies....I know there are sports cars out there with very good auto boxes, but none with the character of a Tuscan//Chim/Griff which I've been enjoying for some 20 years and don't want to lose, unless absolutely necessary!!

Unless I'm missing something, a sequential 'box still has a clutch... so you will still need to use your bad ankle on it.
Rather, don't you mean you need an auto 'box...?

You can get aftermarket controllers for many types of autobox, meaning you can convert them into paddle shift operation. A decent modern (6 speed) autobox, mapped to an after market controller makes for a pretty decent drive, especially in something light with a big engine, so you can lock the TC clutch up good and early.

Is the Achilles a permanent or temporary thing?

Aha......you tell me!!! I've got rid of it twice now, but it keeps recurring....especially after a drive in a TVR!!

If you must have an auto and definitely want to have a TVR there's this car. Maybe you do/don't like wedge era cars but its a 'proper' old fashioned auto. Must admit, I really like this (despite the Cat C)
