My bike seems to have developed an odd problem with its headset (pressfit/carbon).

The headset tightening sequence starting with everything loose:
1. Tighten top bolt until no play.
2. Slacken top bolt until no binding.
3. Tighten stem bolts to specified torque.

This has worked for as long as I can remember. Recently however, I do steps 1 and 2, and I've got the right amount of pre-load in the headset, then when I tighten the stem bolts the headset starts binding.

It's got me completely stumped. I tried swapping out the bearings for new ones, but it's made no difference.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

I had something similar after a local bike shop gave mine bike a complete service... After a failed attempt by them to fix it I took it elsewhere - turned out they had omitted a washer furious

Interesting... It started doing it after I took my bike into the shop to get the steerer tube cut.

How would I know though?
