Not sure where to put this but guessed there are more athletic types here!

I'm struggling with clothing. Mainly in the thigh and arm area where the holes are too tight! Even if they did fit in the arm, I end up looking lost in the shirt as it is assumed that large size required = massive mid section.

I'm not particularly huge (I don't think) but even xxxl shirts are overly restrictive in the arm, and I've tried 40" waist shorts and find my legs are choked at the thigh.

Are there any sportsman biased smart clothing brands out there that you use? Going on holiday in a couple of weeks and don't want to be wearing sports gear for the week laugh

Cheers smile

I never found any. I used to have this problem in my early twenties and frequently looked like I had been dressed by the local greengrocer as a result. I am much slimmer now, but still find that off the peg clothes are too baggy around the mid-section, even tailored offerings. I have never had any success with alterations either.

How big are we talking? (as the actress said to the bishop)

I'll have a look cheers.

As for size I'm an odd shape I guess.

Height is 5'10, Waist is 34", chest is 46", neck is 18".

Bits that get stuck are thighs at just over 29" and arms at 17"

It's Quite irritating to go shopping (I hate shopping anyway!) and then come home with nothing each time irked

Really, so they fail at their mission of providing clothing for gym goers smile

To be fair, I'm not surprised you are struggling. Jay Cutler won the Olympia with a 34 inch waist and thighs "only" two inches larger than yours and he is a monster.

In my experience you cannot dress somebody of such a build to look smart. I had measly 27 inch thighs at the same waist measurement in my early twenties and had to buy stretchy material trousers or shorts, so I do sympathize. I think part of the issue is that 17 inch arms are not big in bodybuilding circles, whereas 29 inch thighs are. The disparity in your upper body to lower body size means you are more unlikely to find flattering clothes off the peg too.

You clearly have great genetics in your thighs, but this is not conducive to looking good dressed in non-gym attire. Athletic men look good in suits, bodybuilders/powerlifters rarely so, even Steve Reeves was too big for a suit IMO.

I didn't realise my thighs were so big to be honest eek guess it is one of those things where seeing them every day, I got used to them and thought of them as nothing special.

I blame the overweight secondrows who couldn't jump when I used to play prop hehe

I did have some Underarmour 'tactical' trousers arrive today. They've proven a decent fit with good space in the legs thumbup

Very pleased with them smile

Agree on larger men not looking good in smart wear. Most of my former team mates look like they were squeezed into an ill-fitting suit at formal events.

Cheers! I'll have a look there smile

I think it is a mix of rugby training when I was younger (lifting obese second rows who couldn't jump) which lead to a good base and I've also worked hard on my legs in recent years to try and strengthen the joints. I have hypermobility so figure increased leg strength could only help in preventing instability! My figures aren't fantastic, currently squatting 170kg on 5x5 stronglifts so about average for a non-competitive trainer. Trouble with hypermobility is that it does make lifting and exercise in general that little bit more difficult.

With regards to the hypermobility, my knee hasn't dislocated for 7 years now so the weight training must be helping biggrin prior to weight training it was 'slipping' every 6months or so and taking 3 months to recover each time.

For those with big thighs/small waist syndrom, check out Asos slim fit range. You still need to order in the bigger waist size that you take but the 'fit' and soft and comfy plus they are only something like £20

We have different dimensions but very much the same problem!

I'm 5'7, 32" Waist, 44" Chest, 18.5" Neck. Not sure what my thighs are as I've not measured them, but 'chunky' with chunky calf muscles. My biggest issue is work shirts! I'm 5'7, so anything that fits my neck won't fit anywhere else. If I go shirt shopping, I have to try everything on. I rarely wear ties these days so can get away with not having a top button done up so can wear smaller shirts. Amazingly, I found that Moss Bros do a range of shirts, can't remember the name, something like '1822' or something, that I can wear a 17" collar and the rest of it fits well. It's still a bit balloony, but very much acceptable and smart looking.

Jeans can be annoying and as much as I loathe paying over £100 for a pair of jeans, Diesel make stretchy ones so what fits my waist, also allows my thighs in in relative comfort. Next own brand jeans in a 34" waist and regular or loose fit also work for me, but would imagine the OP would still have problems with huge quads / hams.

I can only wear expensive suits (or get them tailored) but must still be pick 'n' mix as the difference between the chest and waist is so vast that anything straight off the peg won't work.

I keep seeing adverts on Facebook for clothing for gym bunnies. I will take the plunge and report back!
