Tyres & Henley Heritage
Discussion
I do not wish to misrepresent Henley Heritage so here is more detail:
I was quoted £555 to fit "top of the range SO2's" ie potenza pole position 245.45.16 ZR.
Also, I have Griff wheels on a late model Chim 450.
Because the car is with them for servicing and one of the tyres is badly punctured I hope I can work something out with them.
Wishing all a relaxing weekend

I have so 3 all round and i like them. Probably not suposed to. Do you have suspension probs with your service.
Yeah thanks for reminding me David. I have a sqeak from the rear nearside.
BTW HH said the next best after the SO2's were the Toyos, they don't seem to like SO3's....

My God. I didn't know that there were different qualitites of SO2. Do you think Selectatyre fitted bottom of the range SO2's to my car.....!
They are making a splendid margin on these tyres! I suggest you give a couple of places in the locality of HH a call, play them off against each other and tell them to have the tyres ready to fit later in the day you pick it up. Ask HH ti fit the skinny spare and drive it direct to the tyre fitting / money laundering joint straight after.

Nice bluff from Johnny Salesman! I think what he really meant was that SO2's are 'top of the range'. As your car is already there perhaps you can get someone else to ship them there, and he can fit them for a nominal sum - after all, they're making their profit on the other work. If not, say bollox and take it elsewhere. No point in wasting money.

Had SO3's fitted all round to my Griff (later 500 style alloys) at Bracknell Tyre and Battery for a snip over £400 a couple of days before Duxford, quick and friendly service thrown in as well.
I was advised beforehand that the SO3's needed a very strict breaking in period of warming up and then allowed to fully cool before they would be most efficient and after just over 1000 miles I must say that they seem to perform pretty well.
That said I'm not into pushing my car to it's limit on the track - but my car does get a good blast on a regular basis so I can't vouch for there high speed performance.
I recall reading somewhere on PH that the TOYO's are only available 'V' rated for the 15" front wheels?

Would I be right in assuming that this tramlining effect that some have associated with SO3's would not be an issue as I'm fitting them on the back?
The SO3 tramlining issue is a bit of a red herring as when it was reported the vital fact that the car was running non standard wheels and very low profile tyres was ommitted until many many posts were made. People saw this and naturally assumed that the car had standard wheels and the tyres were crap. The tyres have a stiffer side wall and that means on lower profile applications there is less complience and this can lead to more tramlining.
Toyos have a softer sidewall which scares the living daylights out of me as it brings back memories of wearing out the sidewall lettering as the tyre rolled over the edge of the wheel rim. You can't get ZR rated Toyos for the front so forget them.
The sprinters are getting a lot of personal best times with s03 tyres so that should tell you something as well.

Christ thats exactly what happened to the T1-S Toyos that were fitted to my 306 Rallye. Did one track day at Donnington and totally scrubbed the passenger side front sidewall of all markings. Ended up replacing the whole set, but kept rears and was amazed by how flimsy and lightweight the carcass / particularly sidewall felt compared to other tyres!!

Had new SO3s fitted on the front off mine a couple of weeks ago - £99 each. So far so good - they work well and the car feels good and stable going into the corner and there is no problem when accelerating out.
Just bargain you way with the tyre fitters. Don't use a dealer - in my experience they will charge you twice the price and fitment seperately.
