Used to have a Golf GTD mk7 which was fab, but haven't got the funds to stretch to that.

I have £8k to play with and can't decide between getting a 2011 MK6 with low mileage, or one of the first 2013 Mk7's.

Spec wise this will get me a 2.0tdi 140 with the optical sensors and dab radio which are the two things I'm looking for.

The seats seem to be better on the MK6 compared to the lower end of the MK7 range.

Any other reasons I should go for one or the other?

I'd personally go for the mk7. The mk6 was essentially a facelifted mk5 (although thats being a bit harsh). The mk7 is a much better car.

I think the mk6 is start to show its age now in terms of looks.

Mk7 without a doubt. A much better car all round.

What about an Octavia or Leon. You will get a more for your money.

I have to say that I struggle to tell one generation of Golf from another these days. Everything since the Mk5 looks the same to me! smile

Well maybe its because i had a mk6 and looked a a mk7 before i bought the Passat instead.

Theres quite a big difference in them, if you know VWs (as the O/P seems to) or if you see the two sitting side my side. The mk6 is narrower and sits more upright than the mk7 are the two biggies for me.
