I went to see this car 3 weeks ago when it was in the Pistonheads classifieds and on ebay at £24,950. He dropped it to £23,450 but obviously now wants it gone. Incidentally, my research was that the number plate is original from its registration in Edinburgh.
Stunning piece of engineering work, but about £15k of that was before he went the S/C route so was sort of 'wasted' if you know what I mean.
Looked very good in rolex blue with new hood although it was pouring down in rain so I couldn't see the paint finish properly, and despite the weather, I found:
1. Rust (slightly worse than surface) on the main chassis rails at the front.
2. Outriggers replaced a few years ago but plastered in thick undersealant so couldn't establish their condition properly.
3. Start button on dash was a mod that hadn't worked properly so now did nothing.
3. Trim falling off n/s air vent.
4. Rev counter hugely under-reading.
5. The stainless steel guards for the front rails are a good idea but the rails behind them are completely covered in black goo.
6. On starting, you have to keep pressure on the throttle to warm it up for about a minute before it will idle unassisted!
7. The Tuscan seats needed a refurb really, and IMHO I didn't think they looked right in a Chimaera. Cerbera seats maybe.
I never drove it because of the weather so I can't vouch for it but I expect it's damn quick. To finish it off, it really needs the body to come off and the chassis refurbed, how much more £££ ??? As it stands, £15 - £20k? I'm not sure but when I wanted to knock him down to under £20k, he wasn't having any of it.
I've bought a 4.0 with Canems now anyway so I'm oot.

That car reached £6700 on first listing but didn't meet the reserve. At the other end of the scale is this

Considering on the MoT that there were these advisories:
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to the legal limit
Offside Rear Tyre worn close to the legal limit
O/S seat runner bolt pulled out of floor
Also, the drivers seat obviously needs a refurb. Stating the chassis has NO rust is a bit of as claim too! So I think £6700 at auction was a good price. Doubt he'll get much more.

Looks like this when it's all polished up.......... (although he appears to have put the 15's back on the front)
To most non TVR owners, 157k miles is a LOT of miles.
But when ones with half that mileage are struggling to sell for £10k why should it be worth the same? There are 7 in the classifieds for under £11k. Several of them have had their prices reduced too and still not sold.
eBay is an auction after all. You have to price in potential costs! A car is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

That's what I spent on mine with me doing the work, (added to original purchase price of 20k) But for that I had a bespoke engine build (not just rings and shells), TKO gearbox, etc, etc. I got what I wanted for it too which was good but you never get back what you spend when modifying these cars, and that's not why I did it.Edited by macdeb on Saturday 12th August 18:04

I think anyone new to a TVR and looking at a Chim, will be put off by the big miles. It may well be a rebuilt engine but people think anything near or over 100k is moon miles. Those who know these things will accept it but for me, if I was looking at say a 911 with 157k for example,I would not even consider it, or a Vantage V8, or any other car for that matter. Maybe that's just me but I'm sure there are many out there with the same view. But when ones with half that mileage are struggling to sell for £10k why should it be worth the same? Bump.
The S/C one reached £20,600 in the end. A liitle bit more than I expected at auction.
And the one with the rebuilt engine is for sale again in the classifieds this time for £7750:
