Im sure I will get shot down for this but thought it was worth asking. I bought a MacBook Air for a really good price off Facebook market place from bloke near me. He described it in the add as having a few scratches on the frame. Ive since got it home and found a couple of small scratches on the screen that I didn't notice when I inspected it and it wasn't mentioned in the add. They can't be seen in normal use. The price I payed was around £150-200 below eBay prices. Is it worth going back to the seller and asking for some money back or should I just expect that a 2 year old laptop will have use marks etc and be happy that I got it for such a good price. thanks

You inspected it, and with the bit in bold, I'd say be happy with what you've got.

Especially as you were £150-£200 cheaper than eBay prices, and could pick it up locally.

You've answered your own question.

You bought second hand and below market price so a reasonable person would not be expecting the condition to be the same as a new one.

In my opinion id be more concerned that the laptop was stolen than if it has a couple of marks that aren't visible during normal use...

How can you be sure?

Have you seen the original purchase reciept and then confirmed the transaction I.d and product serial number with the original vender and / or apple?

.. Thought not

I have the original receipt. No quiet down and stick to topic. My question has been answered. Thanks

Have a word with Apple and see what they charge for a replacement screen. It may wipe out your purchase savings, but at least you know its scratch free.

Buyer's remorse is normal. Sounds like you got yourself a good deal though.

If it all works ok, and you got it for a decent sum....

I really despair for sellers with buyers like this.

Reading stuff like this is the reason I have lots of probably valuable (and would be useful and a good deal to someone) stuff sitting in a drawer... Selling on eBay, Facebook just seems not worth it anymore.

ETA: To answer your question, no don't ask for more money back. You inspected the laptop, you paid your money, you got the laptop in the same condition you inspected it.

I wonder if it turned out to be better than first thought if the OP would have offered some extra money to the seller?

Nah, I don't think so either smile

I agree: you had the chance to inspect before parting with the spondulas, you did inspect before parting with the spondulas and you failed to spot the screen scratches

Even if the ad said 100% perfectly scratch free screen you would be carrying some of the blame by not spotting said scratches. As the ad doesn't seem to have made that claim, it is all down to your cursory inspection not being thorough enough

But if not visible in normal use, it isn't the end of the world

depending on the model some have an outer plastic sheet thing that just sticks around the edge - replacement involves a heat gun but leaves the lcd in place - have a look on ifixit for that specific model

This ^^^, and it's why anything we want to get rid of and has some reasonable market value goes to the charity shop, usually the one for the hospice.

If I set Facebook market place radius to 10 miles I'm confident there is a low chance of stolen goods. If I set it to 15 miles it now includes New York City and is just a list of things I stole 5 minutes ago.

Thanks for the mostly good responses. For those who asked, I pid £375 for a early 2015 MacBook Air. They sell for 550-650 on eBay.
