With all the threads around regarding rich, poor, what would you buy if you were a billionaire etc. it got me thinking.

What is the best purchase you have ever made irrespective of cost?

For me it has to be laser eye surgery, being able to see clearly was a revelation hehe.

An Isla balance bike for my little girl, it has given her and me lots of pleasure, it's made lots of strangers smile and it has had a hugely positive effect on her development smile

A blueprint clutch kit for my previous car, for £27.00 delivered from amazon....it retailed at around £150.

Was the last one in stock so i guess they just reduced to clear it....was a rare car so i guess it had been sitting around a while.

My first house. Shared ownership, bought from the local development corporation. It would have been so easy financially to stay in LA rented property and spend all my salary on cars and hifi.

My sons Blanky, bought with a snatch, on a whim as I passed it in Mothercare when he was a week old.

Still in perfect condition 4 1/2 years later and has prevented plenty of melt downs, worth every one of the 3000 pennies.

Not bought by us, but a Mary Poppins plush doll that my daughter loves and goes EVERYWHERE with her and she dances with all the time, it's always making her smile and laugh

A 1990 G Reg Fiat Panda Bella- G57 MSA.

Ebay- taxed and MOT'd. Paid £42 for it!

Kept it for about 2 years and a mate and I used it when our other cars were getting repaired. Ended up scrapping it because I had 3 cars on my mums drive and she was going nuts about it.

Sorely regret scrapping it. It was tomato red with Bella on the side in blue writing. chain driven 900cc engine, 4 speed- 3rd and 4th felt like the same ratio. The most basic car I've ever owned and an absolute hoot to drive. 10/10ths everywhere...

Weirdly; girls absolutely loved it!

They are wonderful. Great shout, both my boys have loved the one I bought.

Mine would be the flat we bought in Clapham in the midst of the financial collapse. It has enabled us to live the relatively simple life we do. Now it's sold.

A lot of these so far are revolving around keeping children quiet or non-existent hehe.

My motorbike licence.

Parents were dead against it, but honestly best thing I've done. I hate to think how much the bd thing has cost me now though...

At first glance I thought this was going to be someone buying a Lord 'title' by buying a 1 square meter plot in some peat bog.... then I saw the user name.

I was about to post much the same thing, my folks didn't like motorbikes and my wife thinks I'm going to die every time I go near one.
I currently have 3 in the garage, had bikes for the last 17 years and can't really imagine life without one.

Greatest purchase for me would have been my property in London, its was my first property and wont be my last but it was eclipsed.

My father is into his watches, I found one I liked and made a dual purchase.

He got number 53 after his birth year and I got number 78 after mine, he wears that watch every single day over his Rolex/Omega/Breitling/etc and that's why its the greatest purchase as it gives him so much pleasure.

2nd would be the amazing pearl I picked up in the arse end of nowhere in Fiji, I managed to get it back, sneak it to my mother's local jeweler (child hood friend) and get it made into an awesome pendant, again it's worn every day and she loves it.

Collectively they are not the most expensive things I have ever got, just well thought out and give a lot of pleasure to the people who received them.

(Being as they are my folks, they would have probably liked anything I got, but thats not the point.

When I was 12 I saw a magnetic chess set in a 2nd had shop window in Cleethorpes, while I was on holiday. (pure glamour, my childhood!) It was quite plush, with decent sized plasic pieces and it was clear it was good quality. It looked brand new. It was £1.50 but I only had £1.25 so the owner let me have it for that.

That was 43 yrs ago. I take it whenever I go away. It's been all round the world, and I've had loads of games on it, many with total strangers. Still looks like new.

Loads of people have commented on it, how nice the pieces feel, the weight of them etc. Magnetic chess sets are very often a bit crap.
