Take 3rd choice job or wait for (possibility) of 1st or 2nd

I'm in the running for three jobs.
A) first choice. Had second interview 3 weeks ago and told the hiring manager had to meet the CEO for sign off on the Friday of that week. Following week I received an email from HR saying the meeting hadn't happened and hiring manage on hol until 14th. Also told I am the only person being considered for the role.
B) 2nd choice. Very good first interview last week, one of only 4 candidates and invited back for 2nd interview / meet other owner on Wednesday (tomorrow)
C) 3rd Choice had a couple of meetings with them over recent weeks and made an offer last Thursday evening, in writing Friday. They want a quick answer and ideally to start handover meetings this week. Hiring manager on hol this wk and next wk though.
On Friday I called HR at A and said, I have an offer, please put a rocket up the relevant people and get them to make me an offer
Also called contact at B and said, can we bring 2nd interview forward to Monday because of this offer which they did. In the interview yesterday they said they were sure I could do the job but they have another person to see who couldn't do this week and is then on hol for two weeks.
Just had an email from HR at A saying no definite decision until end of next week. Thank me for my time and wish me well.
Having had interviews cancelled because an offer was made to someone else I'm frustrated by company B. I could accept the offer, then they see the other guy in 3 wks and decide he's not suitable so they're back to square one. Why not offer me the job?
Company A, also frustrating because they've given the impression no-one else is being considered but they
I would wait the two weeks for either A or B if there was a degree of certainty. I don't want to be job / offer-less in 3 weeks having had an offer on the table.
I don't like the idea of accepting a job and then leaving after a couple of weeks because another offer came up though.
What to do?

If you have a job, handover meetings cant really start this week, unless they are over pints in the evening? Have the second choice interview and then decide. If they cant wait, they aren't a company with long range planning skills 
First choice, nice of them to introduce you to their habits of procrastination and decision making inabilities before you join, no?

I've had all the interviews, it's waiting for someone else to be interviewed at company B, or internal meetings at company I.
I just called co. A to see if I can find out more from them but had to leave a voicemail
And yes, a bit of an eye opener.
1st choice, home based but office only 35 miles away. Pay band (top end) £3k less than previous role. Sales job. Company part of a much larger group so plenty of opportunity for progression
2nd choice, home based but in office one day a week, 123 miles away. Pay could be same or more than prev role. Sales job. Small company but lots of potential for growth. And could be Sales Director in a couple of years
3rd choice, home based but in office two days a week, 175 miles away. Offer is £4k less than last job. Company is in field sales so I'd manage 2 clients and assoc. field teams plus managing the insight team. This takes my career in a different direction which would only be a problem if it doesn't work out long term.

For me, take the offer.
The other two don't sound particularly organized, and there's not guarantee that either will offer a role.
If you're out of work, then I'd personally accept the job offered. You could (potentially) ask whether they'd modify the position to make it more suitable (i.e. salary or more flexibility working from home?), but I'd make them aware that I'd take the job as is if they can't.

Time away is difficult if it's regular. Maybe they can be more flexible. Or perhaps you could stay up there with some sort of expenses paid? Certainly 3 hours commute 4 times a week would soon drag if you can't stay up. And you wouldn't be getting home in time to help with the little ones on office based days anyway. You need to think if it is possible.

Days in the office would include (expensed) overnight stay, so that's not a concern. The time away is, effectively missing two nights because leaving at 5 (if even possible) would mean getting home at 8
I did get an email today asking if I had any questions. No real pressure yet, but I doubt they'll wait much longer.
HR at the preferred co. called me later today with a bit more clarity on the further delay. The new CEO who doesn't officially start until September is on holiday this week (which no-one knew), so even though the hiring manager is back, they can't meet until next week.

Personally I would say I like the idea of the 3rd job to them, and ask them an awkward question to come back to you with.
Giving you time to see if the 2nd job is up for grabs.
Take 2ndif it is, otherwise take 3rd.
Then when you hear back from the first you have the immoral choice of ditching 3rd for 1st.

Accepted 3rd choice simply because I need something.

So I've told them, I start a new job on 4th Sept, I'd rather join their company, so talk to the new CEO and see what he says. Should find out the result of that (internal) conversation next week, a matter of days before I'm due to start the other job.
