Help needed, Sport's car
Discussion
Hi,
I own a Mini GP2 at the moment which I like, but have the hankering for something rear-wheel drive and a bit more pure as opposed to a quick hot hatch. Having gone through a few mind-set's I now think I am looking for the below. On-top of that I use this car as a weekend blast, something to take on a nice drive down to the coast / occasional longer Europe trip as I use the train for work commuting. Would say max 8k miles a year not a lot of city traffic!
My budget is around the 18-25k mark however I would perhaps consider spending a little more for something a bit more special.
Porsche Cayman 2.9 2009 onwards or Boxster but not sold on the fabric roof
Lotus Elise SC / S
BMW Z4M
E92 M3
Another hot hatch such as a Seat Cupra 280 etcetc
M235I
I want a car which would be a nice toy to use on the weekends and longer trips. I value ride comfort and a nice chassis to take the corners along with long motorway trips where possible.
I'm not committed on changing but there is something which is in the back of my mind, I could happily hold onto this GP2 and enjoy it. Let me know if you have any thoughts or anything I should be considering?
Many thanks!
Michael

Lotus Evora easier to live with than an Elise especially on longer trips, all of the Lotus benefits of chassis etc. Noticeably quicker than a 2.9 Cayman, junior supercar looks. Buy at £27-30k and its virtually depreciation free unless you load it with miles.
(I admit to being biased, because I chose one over the other options)

I'm a major convertible fan, especially for a fun car..
removing the roof automatically adds about 30mph to the speed you're doing and yes whilst it's less rigid unless you're going to track it a good convertible is not that far off in terms of rigidity.
So if you're not sold on the cloth roof (though for a fun car why not?) Z4's and SLK's have the folding metal variety.
I couldn't not have a convertible on the drive today - mines currently an S2000 though had a 987Gen2 2.9 Boxster - and it was a brilliant car.

Corvette
Lotus.
If you want an 'enjoyable' car. These would be my list of candidates.
BMW and Porchse are great if the need is for a daily drive. But if not, then something a little more "special" would be the order of the day for me.
Your driving style and the types of roads would likely dictate the best choice.
Lotus. Will reward smooth driving and suit small roads as well as bigger ones. But may feel swamped if you spend lots of time on large open dual carriage ways. They are not a hooligans car.
TVR. Also small and light. But likely to want a bit more room to enjoy. Joyful sound track and can reward a wheel spinning, power sliding style of driving.
Corvette. Will require aftermarket exhaust. But will then offer similar rewards to the TVR. Although preferring slightly larger roads. They also lack the "lightness" of a TVR or Lotus. But will still be an enjoyable car to hoon. With the added benefits of being as comfortable and easy to live with as a Ford Focus.
