Is anyone able to record 5th gear onto their PC, either DVD format or mpeg to upload a high quality version.

Luca Brazzi maybe?

There will be a BitTorrent floating about shortly afterwards, I would have thought. Try http://mininova.org/sub/155 a while later

PC that sits in your living room basically… can record TV, sort out your photos, burn stuff to CD / DVD, act as a jukebox… Media Centre sits on top of XP Pro… so you can still have your normal Outlook, IE, Word, Excel etc etc… mine's going to be coupled to a 26" LCD TV

You can record TV as you woul dwith Sky+ and then burn it to DVD.. it also downloads an EPG of 14 days ahead.. or you can use wildcards. So, I could put in "top" and anything with that in the title would get recorded - Top Gear... Top of the Pops...

See here for a demo… www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/default.mspx

You CAN build them yourself (as I'm doing) but it's a compatibility nightmare… and Media Centre is only available OEM… and it's tricky to install… or you can buy an all-in-one box, like the Elonex (which has some excellent reviews).

yeah was looking at elonex, currently my setup is
that in the lounge I have a Toshiba Plasma which is linked to sky, tivo & dvd player.

Sound is from a Bose lifestyle 30, the sound is then linked to the kitchen & to the bedroom where I have an accoustimass system & also a plasma, the plasma in the bedroom gets its signal from the skybox downstairs.

What I want to know is how do I have:

All my cd's on the media centre & am then able to access music fom the lounge & the bedroom, either creating playlists on the tv screen or some other way ?

Also I can currently record tv on the tivo but would ditch this & use the media centre (does it download tv schedules & is it compatible with sky?)

Can I then watch the stuff from the media centre in the bedroom tv as well as downstairs? Do i need to set up some sort of wireless network ?

Would like to play the odd game on it & also occasionally surf the net, do I need to get broadband for this ? How much is that?

Can I burn dvds on it so that I can record stuff on my camcorder & burn from that ?

Sorry for thread hijack but I'm a complete techie thickie!!

Yep, put a CD in, and it'll rip it to the hard disk. You can use the Media Centre remote to play stuff… normally you need an extender (wireless box) to play stuff elsewhere, but you might be able to link it to the Bose.

Yep, downloads all EPG data (14 days) and is compatible with Sky. It'll even change the channel on the box for you…!

Probably need an extender for that… unless you have a direct aerial output already...

If you were going to surf, then yes… get broadband. A top package is about £30 a month these days, for a quick ocnnection and unlimited download. Plotloss has posted on this before, so he's a good man to ask.

Sure can… one of the many reasons I'm doing it..

But don't Channel 5 now make Fifth Gear available for download immediately after the program? Supposedly in DVD quality. Unaffected by the vaguaries of the transmission process.
