Anyone else experience this curious loophole of ste from HSBC?:

Online banking (in order to facilitate a transfer) requires a security code from the Mobile app

The mobile App, doesn't have the ability to generate a security code

It used to work
now it doesn't

Chatbot about as much use as a chocolate teapot
online tutorials useless
phone help not forthcoming

i'm getting old..... :-(

HSBC seems to have lost the plot in so many ways.

The mobile app on iPhone with tough ID seems to work at the moment though.

I have an HSBC account, solely for the purpose of holding a pot of cash and paying for house renovation related stuff. It makes it easier to keep track of exactly what I spend, rather than dipping in and out of my regular (nationwide) account.

Anyway, every time I try to pay a tradesman or make and bank transfer, I'm reminded how much of a ballache it is getting access codes and security codes and flicking between my iPad and my phone, the mobile site and the desktop site. It's absolutely pathetic.

have you changed phones or re-installed the app? if so, you'll need to call the customer care line and they will run through the security reset procedure to restore full functionality. If you've done neither of these, then oops.

Or reinstalled the OS on your phone?

I've been having loads of issues with my iPhone, that requires wiping it clean and reinstalling from a backup etc. Every time I forget to remove the phone from the First Direct/HSBC app and then have to call them up to reset it (using another completely different password).

The app and online banking is fking painful. I can't transfer money out of my account and their 'help' line is terrible, Indian call centre.

I've been a HSBC customer for over 25 years, soon to be an ex-customer!

We have HSBC online banking but did not sign up for the app. All we need is that number generator gizmo. Seems pretty straight forward?

Keep it that way, avoid the app!

It works perfectly well for me. If I want to set up a new payee I will need the gizmo (seems reasonable), but otherwise it's pretty slick.

I use the app and online banking via a normal browser. The app is by far better than any other banking app I've used (Barclays, Tesco, Natwest) to the point I now prefer it to the website.

The actual website is now shocking though compared to the old one which is a shame. They've tried to make the website more 'app' like which just doesn't work.

As for using the app to generate a code I don't see a problem, every other bank seems to now use a card to generate it which for me was just another thing to carry around in case I needed to do some banking whilst either on holiday or just out and about. I think HSBC are ahead of the game on that one.

I find the app to work pretty well. Only thing it could do with is fingerprint access like Tesco and nationwide use.

You can turn on fingerprint access in the options. On the iPhone version at least...
