993 replacement Polyurethane Bushes 993 ? help
Discussion
on my 993 targa..(still on 17" rubber) about to replace the shocks (bilsten B6) springs (m030) uprated the anti-roll bars (993 turbo spec) but te question of what to do with he suspension wishbone bushes...
using a specialist (AmD) who confirm that I would need to replace the both lower arms with bushes...
but as I read in last years 911P&W replacement Polyurethane Bushes are available which are much more cost effective £100 a set(?) then the entire arms at £200 each !
The issue is ride quality and will it be too firm to live with, in view that this is my daily car and track day car ! AmD say it will be too firm, but on the not so hard Bilsteins and 17" rubber will I cope ?
anyone else tried Polyurethane Bushes ? words of advise please !

If it's any help, my 993 Targa needed new bushes last year. I drew my Porsche independent garage's attention to that article and was firmly advised not to go down that path. The mechanic I've known a long while told me that it was easily possible to damage the suspension arm in the process of driving out the old bushes and it just wasn't worth the effort. According to him, if done by a garage, the labour costs would equate to the cost of buying a new Porsche original replacement suspension arm. I had new arms fitted - peace of mind.
You pays your money and takes your choice.

Just had mine replaced with the polyurethane bushes. Haven't driven it much yet but definetly feels much better combined with the Bilstein HDs I also had fitted. My garage said that they had fitted several of these poly bushes and have had no negative feeback.
The only negative feedback I had was on the standard OEM bushes whiche were described as crap. They have cavities which give a more cushioned feel to the steering. This is one of the main reasons the steering on 993's feels a bit woolly.

Fittd polly bushes to my Cup Car after the OE ones only lasted 2 1/2 years, 10,000kms.
Absolutley no discernable difference until the fule load got below half a tank where understeer came in earlier than usual.
The bushes ar readily available at about £100 + VAT per set. Then labour on top to remove and drive out. Any careful specilaist should be able to do this without damaging the wishbone arms.
I have a pair of wishbones suitable for rebushing if anybody wants to use them in exchange for a rebushed pair and not have to take their car off the road for too long.

cheers for the replies...
the article was in the June 04 issue of 911P&W.. checking the july 04 one as you mention !
£100 for bushes v £400 for a pair new wishbones
but surely the labour on the bushes can't be that much.... would like to save that £300 ! but on my 90k mile car the bushes must be past it..(?)
a trickly one... I know it will help on track but the issue is on road ??? esp in the targa !
